DD had just started to walk yesterday and she had her first fall and fell face first on the edge of a piece of wood (thats part of our wall) and left her with a cut below her eye on her cheek. We immediately took her to hospital where they cleaned it and i think she put some sort of glue and a couple of stickers. Im so worried about the scar because its on her face , im so upset about it-once it heals can i put something on there to help with the scar like vitamin e oil or can i see a specialist that can do something, she only 11 months old. help.....so worried.......
little babies tend to heal better from scares than adults, they really are amazing creatures. My nephew was cut (deeply) on his cheek when being delivered by caesarean and the scar has faded to almost nothing, I'm sure your daughter will be the same.
Once the cut has healed then if you want some bio oil might help it fade, but her age will most likely do this on it's own
As Traveller said, babies do heal so well. My DD1 has surgery when she was 9 weeks old, she has 4 scars on her jaw/chin and you can no longer see them, they were red at first but faded really quiet well.
Oh poor you! I'm sure you're much more upset about this than DD!
You've done a great job by taking her to hospital to have the wound fixed.
Once the wound is well sealed you could consider Rosa Scarless Healer which is a herbal cream. Do an internet search for ideas of where to buy it.
As Traveller said, bubs do heal quickly and thoroughly. But in the event that a tiny scar does remain, remember that it WILL be tiny compared to the rest of her face as she grows up! And which of us do not have small scars and marks to remind us of our spills when we were young? I for one have little bumps on my lip where my tooth went through my lip, many people have chicken pox scars, and so on. It is all part of what makes us unique and she'll love to tell the story of the tiny little mark under her eye if anyone asks her about it down the track.
thank you for the quick respsonses, what about those bandaid plaster things that claims to help reduce scarring faster, i saw them at priceline pharmacy they look like clear bandaids...
If I were in your position, I wouldn't want to put any bandage, bandaid or dressing on it at this stage unless the hospital recommended it. Just follow the care instructions that they gave you - the most important thing for your DD at the moment is to avoid infection and speed initial healing. So no I wouldn't use a band aid and wouldn't put any extra lotions on it until the wound has initially healed.
I agree with AliB, take the hospital's advice for now and leave the wound dressed the way they advise. Only once the wound is completely healed would I suggest trying any oil to help the scar.
My littlest boy had an operation aged 15 months. For months afterwards I was worried about the very noticeable red scar (it is on his penis) but today I changed his nappy and I noticed it is almost gone less than a year later. Babies are the most incredible people for healing.
I suspect that part of your concern about the scar is that you feel in some way responsible for the accident. If that is the case then please don't feel guilty. Accidents happen all the time and that's all this was.
poor you, its so scary when they start walking, DD has had so much falls, cuts, and bumps!!!!
The worst one i posted the same as you, she took the whole top off her nose...twice in two days! its healed SO fast and now not a mark. just put a bit of vitamin E cream on it...and even though she picked the scab off it was healedin a matter of days!!!!
Kids are amazing when it comes to healing! Big hugs to you and your DD!
yea i must admit i feel like its my fault, our house has only timber flooring so its a bit hard to cope when she falls down, we bought some carpet but we cant carpet the whole house...how do people cope when they are just walking..its so scary now especialy after that accident
it is hard when they start walking and the floor is hard. I remember when my 2nd child was walking and we had ceramic tiles it was a nightmare, I was constantly panicking. She will be steady on her feet before you know it though and this time will pass. Try letting her practice walking on grass where she can fall as much as she needs to and in a week or so she will hardly be falling at all (or will have at least perfected falling onto her bum!)
