How old was your toddler/child when you removed bed side?

Well the title sums it up really.
DD is 23 months old and has been in a big bed since she was 17 months. For the first 4 months her big bed was on the floor but over Christmas we moved it up on the frame. By the time we moved it up onto the frame she was used to sleeping up the correct end of the bed and had stopped rolling out. She's had a side on the bed for a couple of months but last night DH took it off. DD was fine with no side all night and during her afternoon nap today.
Do you think it's ok for her to not use a side anymore?

We moved DD into a toddler bed (from mattress on the floor which she had been on for maybe three months) at 15 months. We never put the side on as she just saw it as something to climb over so she would fall further! She has fallen out once i think, but is fine now.

my DD went into an ensemble at 16months old and never ever had a bed rail (cos her slack mum kept forgetting to buy one).

I reckon she'd be fine. It's an awareness thing that they get used to and she seems to have it down pat.
If you're worried you can always put a few pillows there on the floor just in case.

We took DS's cot sides down when he was about 16 months and he moved straight into a toddler bed at 18 months with no side. I just put my body pillow along the edge of the bed and a few more cushions on the floor. He's only fallen out a few times so far, gets more of a fright than anything!

Sounds like your DD is doing great without a siderail. I think every child will be different there.. my DD for example, had her bed rail till she was at least 5! Think it may have even been a little longer than this?? Even now at 10, I have gone in to wake her of a morning and she has actually been half on, half off the bed, with her head touching the floor..and she sleeps in a queen size bed!

Thanks everyone. Here I was thinking that I was being a bit of a bad mummy.
Nic: LOL, I totally pictured your dd sleeping half off the bed with her head on the floor and her bum in the air. Classic

when we took DD bedrail off we rolled up a thick towel and put it under the fitted sheet down the side of the bed, that way it stopped her rolling off, we only did it for a few weeks til she was used to it then removed it

We have never used one either. DS has fallen out of bed a couple of times, once he woke but the other he didn't even wake up!!

Olive i love the idea of the rolled up towel under the fitted sheet!! What a great idea!!
