Homemade tomato soup - would this work?

I have a craving for roasted tomato soup. Does anyone have a recipe?

I thought maybe I could so the following:

Buy a bag of tomatoes (say 1 kg)
    Cut in half
    Roast until soft
    Peel off skin
Roast some basil (I imagine it wouldn't take long)
Throw tomatoes & basil in slow cooker with salt and pepper
    Cook for X? hours

Would that work? Do you think I should add garlic or onion? or worchestershire sauce?

I'm not an expert on the slow cooker - I've used it maybe twice (it's 6.5L in size). How long would I need to cook it for? And should I use 2kg? There's just DH & I atm, but I would freeze some

Then i could serve with hot buttered rolls..hmmm

You'd probably need to add some stock, vege, chicken, whatever for extra flavour and a pinch or two of sugar to take off the accidic edge.

Yeah, I agree with ausgirl - add some stock, and I reckon that an onion (or even some garlic too) wouldn't go astray for some extra flavour.

You'd probably want to blend it up after the slow cooker to give it that nice rich thick consistency.
