    Anyone do Distance Education?

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Distance Education? I have an 11 year old with a school phobia. He was going to a regular primary school up until 2009, when I began home-schooling him. I actually didn't realise that Distance Education could be an option until after we'd registered and commenced Home Ed.

I have found home-schooling him to be quite overwhelming, especially since I had a baby in mid-2009. I am teaching him for 6 hours a day, then I spend hours each night & practically all weekend working out his lessons (even with the help of an online school for maths & school-oriented workbooks) to ensure he meets the strict NSW minimum curriculum requirements. My husband works long hours, but helps out as much as he can.

His old school & his paediatrician have suggested Distance Education as an option, but I'd love to ask some questions of those who have had experience with it. Has anyone here done/ is doing Distance Ed? It would be wonderful if you had experience with the NSW system, & Dubbo DE in particular, but ANY advice would be wonderful! If you can help, can I please bombard you with questions (I guess mostly to do with how time-consuming it is)?

    Thanks!

    Froggy

(I have posted this in a couple of different sub-forums because I didn't know exactly where to put it, so my apologies in advance for repeating myself!)

Hey chickie - well done for all you have done for your boy. I am in Qld so this may not apply but I started with distance ed and has switched to homeschool. I actually found the dis ed school to be very demanding and expected everyone to be on their pet curriculum and the work returns were a headache. They do have their bonuses with staff on call, home visits, a library in you need them.

I suggest you visit the Aussie homeschool site and ask some of your questions on their forums, you will get some good answers.

my daughter is almost 8 and in grade 2 this year, she is doing very well at school she has gotten into a enrichment program, but we go away alot well did and sometimes i am so over school, i was wondering if anyone does home schooling and what your opinion is, we are in qld so any info would be great, not something i will rush into now, but maybe future depending on how this carbon tax thing goes and expenses and if we can live here, we already moved from the gold coast to hervey bay due to not being able to afford it down there, thats another worry is rental prices and what not dont want to have to put her out of school all the time if we move from one place to another, she started school at hervey bay so that was a good time to move,

Dubbo DE is great! I know people who work there and they are extrremely good at what they do and very helpful.
