My DS has been sleeping in his cot since he was 4.5 months old - firstly in with DH and I, then into his own room at 6.5 months. He's been fine in his cot, but I think maybe it might be time for cot bumpers now.
The last couple of nights he has been waking up A LOT. It's as if everytime DS moves around he wakes up and starts crying. I'm wondering if he's moving around and bumping himself or getting his legs caught in the cot bars? We've never had this problem until just recently. He has started walking recently too - I wonder if he's trying to practice in his sleep , lol, and that's why he's moving around so much?
Has anyone else had this problem? Did cot bumpers do the trick? Or is time to move a mattress onto the floor for DS to sleep on?
DS HATED his cot, he would only sleep properly in the portacot with the soft sides. I was too paranoid about SIDs to put cot bumpers on, so I got rid of the cot and let him sleep in the portacot full time. This time around Im gonna get cot bumpers when bub starts moving around heaps.
Maybe try an Airwrap? Keeps the limbs from getting between the bars.
Do you use sleeping bags? I find my DD wriggles and moves around her cot a lot if she is not in her sleeping bag.
Both of these options are safer than cot bumpers.
It could be just a stage, like you say practising at night - which could go away in a couple weeks. If not an Airwrap or sleeping bag might help.
cot bumpers are sids risk hon. I would try and airwrap and a sleeping bag? Tara was doing this too so I put her in a sleeping bag and she was good, no need for airwrap! and no more waking up when feet/hands got caught in the cot.
Thanks for your replies. I'll try an airwrap - where can you get them from? I've been looking for sleeping bags for DS, but cannot seem to find any .
Those will help with his legs getting caught, but I think a lot of the problem is that he always ends up sleeping across the cot instead of up and down, and he's just too long to fit - so he always bumps his head.
If the airwrap doesn't help, I may end up trying his portacot - thanks for the suggestion Widdly.
Sterla..I use the sleeping bags alot. Gro Bag is one brand and the other is Snugtime.
You can buy them online or at a good baby store. Have seen them in Target too. Ebay is another place to look.
I too wouldn't use a cot bumper..the airwrap sounds like a good idea.
DD is the same, she usually sleeps sideways in her cot. She's not going to fit that way for much longer though! I use a Grobag for her at night and she has the Airwrap around the cot. It's great around the three fixed sides, but I find because there is a separate piece for the drop down side it tends to fall down a bit (mostly because DD sticks her feet on top of it and pushes it down!). It is good though, and protects them somewhat from banging against the side of the cot. They also can't stand on it like they can with a bumper as it just squishes down which is good.
Well, I found an airwrap and have put it on DS's cot - he's about to go down for a sleep, I guess I'll soon find out if it helps. I have also found some sleeping bags, so willl buy one tomorrow when DH's pay comes through.
