    Need Help...Please

    Hi All,

Im trying to decipher approximately how much money my sister in law would be earning. I am not normally the kind of person to look into other peoples salaries, though situations arising. ie constant borrowing of money, and constant needs of help from her own parents, and family members are turning our family upside down. She is siphoning money from her parents to the point, where they cannot themselves live, and therefore they go to their other children for money to assist them in their living expenses..All in the meanwhile on the side, she still goes to her siblings to ask for money. I just need to know the ballpark figure of what this lady may be earning.

    She is a single mother
    She does not work
    3 children
1 of school age and the others are younger
    1 child suffers from Azbergers
All the children are aboriginal, though the mother is not. She is living in housing provided by housing commission.
No financial support from father who is aboriginal.

**Note, im only stipulating the racial backgrounds, as I believe aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders receive higher benefits, than the average. I am NOT stipulating them due to racial discrimination.

Im sorry if you all think I am a cow...I dont have an opinion of who deserves what in society, etc. Im just looking at my own families situation and as money is leaving my familes pocket to feed her family at times, i'd like to just know.

I can completely understand if one does not wantto respond in open forum, I am most happy to receive private messages ragarding this situation. Thanx

Thanxabunch for an answers given :-)

I don't see how this information will be helpful to you - especially as it is easily accessed from the Centrelink website. If she is borrowing money from family, perhaps that is an indication that she is struggling to manage financially - and single parents surviving on benefits only certainly do not do it easily.

Anyway, you asked for the figures so here they are:

Firstly, the indigenous status of her children has absolutely no impact on the entitlements she receives from Centrelink. There is no additional payment for aboriginal people.

If she is a single parent, not working and her youngest child is under 6, she would most likely receive Parenting Payment Single (PPS, or single parents pension) which is a maximum payment of $574.50 per fortnight.

She may also receive Carers Allowance of $106.00 per fortnight for her child with aspergers, although this is dependent on the level of disability.

If she receives Family Tax Benefit, the payments vary with age:
For part B: if her youngest child is under 5, the maximum she would be entitled to is $133.56 per fortnight, OR if her youngest is over 5 and under 15 the maximum she would be entitled to is $93.10 per fortnight.
For part A: for each child under 13 years of age, the maximum she would be entitled to is $156.94 per child per fortnight, for each child aged 13-15 $204.12 per child per fortnight, and for each child aged 16-17 $50.12 per child per fortnight.

If she lives in public housing, she is not entitled to rent assistance.

Of course this is only an estimate of her MAXIMUM entitlement - it may be much lower depending on circumstances - particularly things like child support/maintenance, income, assets etc.
