In a couple of weeks time I am attending a race day for my DH work. I have bought a new Basque dress from Myer to wear. It is a black dress, cut just above the knee. It has a beige type colour slip underneath and at the bottom of the dress there is some cut out detail that shows the colour underneath.
I was looking at the most recent Myer catalouge and all the pictures of dresses they are teamed up with black opaque tights. I really like the look and wouldn't mind covering my white legs lol. Do you think this would look ok for a race day? Keep in mind this is in QLD so I wouldn't be wearing them for cool weather or anything. Do you think I would look silly during the day in QLD wearing opaque tights?
Personally, I'd say no unless it's late Autumn or during Winter in Melbourne. I'd wear beige sheer stockings, as they look classier and are more Summery. Also, I think it would complement the dress. Alternatively, spray tan your legs and go bare with cute sandals. If you're wearing a LBD, then that is the statement item and everthing else just complements it and shouldn't compete.
One thing I learnt is to not "cut the line". Don't cut the line of the legs by going for black shoes/sandals - if you have beige or another neutral colour, wear those with a matching handbag. Cutting the line makes your legs look heavier.
If you only have black shoes, wear ones that don't cut across at the ankle - those gladiator sandals come to mind (personally loathe them) - as these just add bulk to ankles and make legs look shorter
btw - the black opaques are in the autumn/winter catalogue. Sometimes it looks OK, but a lot of the times it's very goth, IYKWIM.
Hmm dress sounds FAB! Do you think you will be too hot in the tights? Could you maybe not wear tights?
Like Tash said what about a spray tan
Definitely wear Heels You will look gorgeous...lucky you races are FUN
I agree, I wouldn't wear opaques, sheer or bare will look much classier, elegant and less cluttered. If you are worried about your legs, start applying something like johnsons holiday tan or there were some other ones mentioned in a thread here not so long ago.
