Red face Inspired to get married

I don't know if many of you know but i have been engaged to my DP for nearly as long as we have been together, he proposed to me when i was 17.

Getting married was always something we thought about but could never see the reality of it, money being our biggest issue.

But being at the wedding yesterday it really doesn't take that much, the ceremony was a back yard one.

And i was thinking that if we just went to the Births, Deaths and Marriages place here and just did a registry wedding and then come back to my mums and we'll have a small ceremony, might appoint his best mate to do a speech and allow us to say our vows and exchange rings. Won't be legit but will be for our family and friends to see. Then have a massive BBQ for our reception. My mums back yard can fit up to 200 people (don't think i know 200 people though)

The only cost would be for a dress for me, maybe a new suit for DP, the registry wedding, the rings and all the food and drinks. And if i must hiring of chairs and tables for the guests

But really shouldn't cost that much at all. And with help from family should be easy peasy.

This wont happen for a few years yet but to see it can happen makes me happy.

It can definitely happen! And it sounds like so much fun the way you have described! There's nothing stopping you from having a bigger ceremony later in life when you renew your vows either if that was a big desire for you

    Congrats Hun!
DF and I are doing the exact same thing. Small ceremony at registry ranges from $250 to $320 depending on the day and number of guests (in melb). DF comes from a wealthy family so he has some gorgeous suits, so that's covered. I come from a povo family (but I love lol) so i'll need a dress, shoes etc but nothing too exxy. I have an amazing ring my granmother passed onto me so that will be my wedding band, so df just needs one. We project $1000 for the whole thing, maybe $1500. My mum is an angel and offered to throw the reception. So yeah, can deff be done cheaply and nicely. I'm on the iPhone so I can't really find you the link, but if you look in the wedding section of bb there was a thread I made recently about cheap, beautiful weddings, there were a lot of great ideas and suggestions. Good luck and congrats again!

Depending on the cost of the registery wedding, you may even be able to find a celebrant for around the same amount... so that would mean you could have a legit ceremony in front of your friends & family.
We got married on the beach with a celebrant and it was beautiful.

The nicest wedding I went to was at a registry office followed by a back yard reception. It was so casual and you didn't lose the couple in all the usual formal wedding setups. The bride was eating hot dogs in her wedding gown but that's the relaxed sort of people they were. Everyone just wore neat casual. Dress pants and a shirt, no tie for men and summery sort of casual dresses for the girls. Was so nice to see everyone so relaxed.
