    Post Private Health Insurance

    Hi,
I am planning to get PHI cover for the family. Any suggestions as to which one is good enough? Also is root canal treatment covered in dental immediately or is there a wait period for that?
Any suggestions are welcome. DH is leaning towards HBA.
    Thanks.

You be best ringing the one you eventually choose to check if the root canal is covered and what waiting periods apply as all PHI differ greatly. We are with Phoenix, but I think you have to work for certain companies to be eligible for them, but they cover pretty much everything, I had no gaps to pay when I gave birth

Each health fund will offer different rebates for different things. It is a bit of a mission to find the right fund for you but once you have found it PHI is great IMO I would recommend writing a list of what you want it for and then find a fund that offers good rebates on those things. For example when we joined we wanted great dental especially for braces, we also get lots of massage, acupuncture and natural therapies etc and chiropractic, we both wear glasses. Most funds will have a waiting period for dental but depending on what time of year you join they will wave them. For example AHM (who we are with) goes by financial year, I think we joined in March so they waved the 2 month waiting period for general dental. We have found them great but after our bub is born and hubbys braces are off we will switch funds because AHM are now owned by medibank (who $uck). Good luck

You will need to compare the benefits tables from each policy you are looking at, or even ask those questions over the phone.

This is some useful comparitive information on this website

Thank you all for replying. I agree that the best idea is to sit down and talk it over with the insurer as I am finding the websites a bit confusing. I have zeroed in on NIB and HBA for now. Thanks again.
