Re-threading broken Amber Teething Necklace?

Hi

We've got a broken amber necklace we want to rethread (bought another one, but want to keep this one as a back-up).

Do they use special thread in them? Or can we just use cotton thread?

Don't they have to be able to break under pressure to help stop choking?

Anyone does this before?? Any help appreciated!

Who did you buy it through? Can you ask them to rethread?

I think it is cotton, altthough silk can be used I think? Not sure about the choking although I thought the clasps were usually quick-release or breakable, not necessarily the thread?

I got it through Darlings Downunder about 18 months ago...

It's a screw clasp - so not sure if they're a 'quck-release' or not??

Pretty sure its silk thread or nylon (stronger than cotton), usually I think they also knot between each bead to prevent them all coming off (and being swallowed) if they break.

Probably doesn't really help you that much but mine is threaded on silk, double knotted between each bead and has a magnetic clasp so it doesn't get caught on anything

contact the company you bought it from & ask them about repairs. It cost us nothing to have DD's repaired except the postage there

dd has a magnectic clasp and was like cotton and knotted in between each bead. Ours broke about six months ago and i tried a few different replaced strings but she was able to break them all pretty easily. I ended up using some jewellery making stuff i found in spotlight.
Its sort of like clear thin elastic string, I didnt knot between the beads, but its been fine so far

I would contact the manufacturer or you could rethread yourself a choking hazard. And for those that are looking into getting an Amber Teething Necklace make sure you look for the safety quick release clasp. This is a safer alternative to the threading breaking, because if they do break a bead could end up becoming ingested.

They're pretty small beads Rouge, do you reckon they'd do any damage? I'm sure my kids have eaten rocks bigger than the beads...

and flies...and beetles....and leaves....

Nettie, I wonder if you might be able to look on ebay or even if you have a local beading/haberdashery store, whether you could find some magnetic clasps from there. And then the knotting between beads too.

Yep they could become a choking hazard, kids can choke on small things when they don't mean to ingest them and they lodge KWIM? And it varies brand to brand on the size of the bead or whether they are round or odd shaped. I might seem to be being paranoid but I'd rather be safe than sorry

Kids can choke on unpopped pocorn seeds & they're about the same size as Juliette's amber beads

I agree with Rouge, I wouldn't be doing it myself I'd be scared of doing it wrong & it becoming a risk to my baby. I'd get the manufacturer to do it or it would be in the bin.
