Just wondering how do I go about booking into the public IVF clinic at Westmead? (not neccessarily going to just wondering what has to be done to go on the waiting list)
DH and I will be starting our first IVF cycle in May/June at this stage through Sydney IVF but due to financial reason we can only have one full stimulated cycle through this clinic. Hopefully its successful but I know there is no guarantee's so I was wondering how you go about going through the public clinic as I know its substainially cheaper. A friend of mine has been on the waiting list along time (she has used Westmead clinic for many years without success so maybe thats why she waits so long between cycles) but if the wait is so long should I consider putting my name down or having an appointment etc through the westmead clinic incase Sydney IVF is not successful? I hate the thought of waiting until July plus to decide if we then swap clinics and then have a really long wait IYKWIM! Just trying to gather more info and options in case Sydney IVF isn't successful and we want to move onto the only other place we can afford.
Hi Mildez,
WFC is the best - We had BFP on our first attempt through ICSI - who's now our 2yr old DD. They were really easy and simple to communicate with, fast in their response and I found the wait times not too bad. Since then, they've also had whole new facilities build which are supposedly 5* quality. DH and I decided on our DD 2nd b'day to go again using one of our frozen blasty's and rang from the list of Dr's they take referrals from...had a 2week wait to see her (our previous dr had retired), and i'm now waiting for AF to come to start the cycle.
I have had friends go to other clinics and not only walk away with a huge debt, but no son/daughter and not always a very great experience with their staff. WFC staff were lovely. During my ICSI cycle i arrived to collect med's on the wrong day when all the staff were in a mandatory meeting. I ended up emotional and in tears in the foyer. The NUM came out from the meeting, retrieved my file details, organised my meds (and a cool drink!), and sat with me till i regained composure - They were wonderful. I live an hour away from WFC and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else!
To answer your question though - to book in, just give them a ring. They'll walk you through it all from there!!
Wishing you all the luck with your chosen clinic and of course, your cycle when it starts!!
I had some info sent to me from Westmead recently, I just called up the Fertility center and they send me all the info I needed (02 98457484) they also have a website if you google, Westmead Fertility. From what I recall, you need to make an appt with one of about 8 specilists then get your referral from them.
I am actually going through RPA hospital and that is just a matter of calling the fertility number also. I am finding the waiting a huge thorn in my side however, I had my inital appt in early March, then some tests done late March, I was supposed to go back 29th April (and even that wait was killing me), until I was told the doctor was now unavailable and the next appt was 3rd June...! Argh!!!
