    Todays the day we start!

Today is DS first day in cloth!! I am so excited.. At this stage we will just be part time, until I slowly build up my stash. I can see how buying MCN's could get addictive

So far so good, even though only 10 mins after putting his first MCN on, he did a big poo! So thrown straight into it.

I have mentioned it to a few family and friends, and generally people have been pretty good. The main critism I have been getting is the wasting water comments..I know we are in a drought, but come on... its not that much extra washing a week. I also would have though, a few extra loads of washing would still be less than what it takes to make disposables, and also better than all the landfill (and all the chemicals).

How do you handle these comments??

    So how did it go?

Did you know it actually take more water to manufacture a disposable than it does to wash a cloth one?

I don't talk about it to negative people, or i just nod and smile at their comments. What they think doesn't effect me doing my thing.

    Another new MCN user!

    That is very exciting.

I just started in MCN's two weeks ago. I still get excited about her bum and think i will forever.

I only have a part-time stash at the moment as i wanted to try several types first. Then I will buy some more on sale during the Great Down Under Nappy Hunt. Have you heard of/registered with this? If not do a google search. I went with three bigger brands but now i want to explore WAHM's as there are so many that are highly regarded. And i want to make some.. Did I mention i am now addicted???

When people mention to me"what about the water" I have just stated that sposies use more and they will never disappear either. The non-biodegradable aspect seems to concern many that I have spoken to that never thought of that.

I have not found the extra washing a pain, even though it is an extra load a day as I do not have enough yet.

What did you get? How are they going?

It went really well!!! Not leaks and the poo was no problems at all.

After I posted this I got online and did some fact hunting.. so now i feel more prepared if I do get someone that wont just except the old nod and smile trick (my usual tactic for everything baby related!)

Shaz - thats great to hear. Yes I actually came across the hunt yesterday while googling.. I had heard of it before, so I was pretty excited that I was able to register in time to take part. Like you I only have a small stash (4 atm) from a couple of lovely BB members that had them for sale. They are Cushie Tushies and Green Kids. There are lots more brands I want to try as well.

We are on a pretty tight budget, so I will only be able to buy them a few at a time and slowly build up. So am looking forward to the hunt, and hopefully pick up some bargains too.

I washed yesterdays last night, before bed and they are almost dry.. very heavy rain atm so they are inside. Cant wait till they are dry so I can put them back on him

First of all - how exciting!! Good luck with using cloth nappies!!
About the water, I usually get more comments about extra washing in general. I just say things like it takes more water to make disposables, I am not creating landfill, I love washing so I love having an excuse to spend more time in the laundry, it's not that hard to throw a few nappies in with the wash. It depends on who I'm talking to & what they've said.

    Congrats on going cloth!
I cant wait to start, still just waiting on the bub to pop out
I never knew that disposibles use more water to be manufactured, I'll be using that comeback as I already have alot of people saying I am crazy for going cloth. pfft o them I say! I love a cloth bumed baby, I reakon they are so cute!
Im also signed up to the GDUNH, and yes I have become an addict. I have about 60 fitteds 24 AI2 and 18 covers in various sizes.
Probably enough, but Im buying bigger sizes now for when bub gets bigger because I have enough newborns and small sizes.
I have been finding alot in the bargain bins and sale items in the mwwah websites.
Im getting itchy to buy more.. must wait till monday..

The strangest comment so far was that huggies are way better for the environment than cloth nappies and also any other disposable on the market (WTF!)

Congrats on going cloth. Best thing I ever did!

I found I actually enjoyed washing the nappies. One extra load, especially when you have so many cloth nappies is nothing. if you only have a few nappies and need them washed and dried and back on baby, I can see how that would consume a lot of water.

    wtg! Its addictive!
