    Question Jon Gabriel Method?

I've been hearing a bit about the Jon Gabriel method from some online friends and have just ordered his book and cd tonight.

Has anyone had experience with it? Has it been good for you? Is it easy to follow/implement/sustain?

Can you give me the gist of it here and how it works for you? Do you have the cd or just the book and was that enough?

Do you think it's a "forever" approach? I'm so sick of counting points/kjs and I cant seriously do it forever.

Looking forward to something new to try and hopefully succeed with!

    Sazz.

MIL thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread.

She started it for weightloss (not that she had a huge amount to lose) and found that it gave her more energy and that she felt better in herself with it. Seeing her before Christmas, I honestly could not see that she had lost any weight at all, but she says she has.

MIL is pretty kean on having me try it. She stresses not for weight loss, but to help some of my other health concerns, but it's a BIG sticking point for me as she went about it in COMPLETELY the wrong way.

It's very big on working through past psychological trauma in order to "turn off fat switches". And when you are directed to look at the gabriel method forums because there's "some great information about how it helps arthritis" on it and discover that the information about arthritis is there because it was your MIL asking about whether the gabriel method can help arthritis, in particular my specific situation (which she does not have a clear understanding of!) including speculation about what past abuse and trauma I may have endured... it's a complete breach of trust and privacy and I have still not spoken to MIL since finding this.

It's not something I will go near. Not necessarily because I don't believe it will work, but all because of what I found on that forum. The belief that I have arthritis as a result of being traumatised in the past. The belief that the medications I take to help the arthritis are dangerous (which they are) and unneccessary (which they are not) and that I should stop taking all of them and rely on fish oil (which does not work - have tried it many times) to fix my arthrits and dissolve egg shells in vinegar and drink the resulting solution...

However, my avoidance of it is down to personal reasons and utter disgust with the lack of understanding I've found on the forum and the complete disregard of the fact that sometimes medicines are necessary for a body to function. I think the important thing about whether it can be a "forever approach" is whether it's something you think you could maintain. I honestly believe that the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to make lifestyle changes rather than dieting or counting calories. If you think it is suggesting changes that you would be able to maintain long term, then it likely will work for you.

Sazz, I tracked down a copy of the book (& downloaded the CD from his website, code word "heart" is in an online interview I saw) and TBH it's got me fascinated. It's worth a read in my opinion because it really does address the body-mind-spirit aspect - using visualisation and identifying your own beliefs and triggers can go a long way to getting past the internal barriers to weight loss. The actual food part of it makes sense too - adding in nutrients and live foods as opposed to stripping other things out of your diet. Anyway, I'm only part way thru reading but it lines up with my world views and it seems pretty comprehensive.

BW - I"m sorry you had such a disappointing experience with your MIL & the forum. I'm sure most ppl don't have half a clue when it comes to understanding what living with arthritis like yours is like - they think of nannas with achey joints in cold weather. The suggestion that it's caused by past trauma isn't related to anything I've read in the book so I have no idea where that comes from. I think you have every right to feel angry about what has happened.
