Question *Please Help* SIL Newborn, possible reflux or neck problems???

Her DS was born 12 days ago. The birth was very traumatic for all involved, fast induction, he was trying to come out forhead first, with his hand up to his face and chin up, he got stuck, MUM and DS both got extremely high fevers and ended up having and Emergency C/S.

Since birth he has not been able to settle on his back, I have spent quite a bit of time helping with establishing breastfeeding and supporting them. The feeding is going well, and they are working through the cluster feeding in the evenings. It has actually been very rewarding helping them and great to see them develop a lovely breast feeding relationship

Generally when he settles it is either face down on the chest, or on his side, in hospital I tilted the cot and he settled better, we did the same when the got home.

But they are still having a lot fo trouble in the evenings (I think it may be "normal" )but my experience was quite different and all a bit fuzzy really As DD was like a newborn for 3 months

    But a few questions....

How long did is take for your DD or DS to transition from the night time awake time to more daytime?

Because he won't settle on his back would it be likely that it could be reflux - he does spit out quite a bit?

Or could it be possible some neck problems do to the type of arrival, getting stuck and coming out on a weird angle?

If so would it be best to see a Paediatric Chiro or Physio?

Thankyou for reading if you have any way you can help me help my SIL it would be HUGELY appreciated!! TIA xxoo

DS1 would not sleep on his back either for 6 weeks. At 5 weeks we started reflux meds and osteopath! He improved within a week not massivly but didnt need to sleep on his tummy on my chest. Slowly we continued improving. We had weekly sessions for about 8 weeks and he was much better by end of that, not sure if it was meds or osteo. He was on meds for 7 months i think.

So nice of you to look for advice for her. Hope bubs improves soon.

Beema where abouts is your SIL in SA? If you want to PM me I can give you the name of a great osteopathy clinic that I can recommend.

DS has just woken up so can't type anymore in relation to your other Qs but will BBL.

I didnt need a referal to see an osteo, just ring and book.
12 days is very young to have day and night sorted out isnt it?
I would have said maybe 6 weeks.
As for the back thing, I have heard that tummy time is good for reflux bubs, I just kept mine upright.
FWIW, for me, the jury is still out on the osteo.
I thought it worked, but then I wanted to believe that.
I am pretty sure that time is what fixed my kid.
    Good luck xxx

That is what I wondered about the day night thing, as he is a lot more settled during the day. I have no idea how long that resettling into a more day away night sleep longer would take...

I will chat to them about the tummy time as well.

    thankyou!
