Anyone who can tell me about blood sugar levels?

A family member has recently had to start testing their sugar levels. So I used the thingy while I was there today out of curiosity - it had been at least 3 hours since I had eaten anything and my sugar reading was 7.1 which I believe is high.
Anyone shed any light on this for me?

7.1 is ok, the 'normal' range is between 3 and 8. It also depends on when you checked it ie: how long after food etc.

Oh okay, it was 3 hours after eating, maybe longer. My relative was told he needed to be under 7.

    Is the relative diabetic?

My DH is diabetic and he has a smaller range. He has to stay under 6.

If you're not diabetic, then your blood sugar will stay pretty constant even between meals.

Your BSL should be under 7 from 1 to 2 hours after eating or drinking. Lots of things can affect your BSL though - if you had any substance on your finger when you did the test, it can mix with your blood and cause a higher reading.

7's not really a big deal. If you were diabetic, then 7.1 reading 3 hours after a meal is a bit of a concern - but it also depends what the meal was. If it were over 10, I'd be worried.

i would give my right arm for a reading of 7!!!!!!
between 4-8 is totally normal, and yeh make sure u have clean hands when u test and remember that stress levels can also affect your reading.
Keep an eye on it and go see ur GP if your concerned

I remember my gp saying that anything over 11 is concidered a diabetes diagnosis
