    solids...BFing....poo? Help

Hi this is my first post so I hope I get things right

I have a 4 1/2 mth old DS who is BF but is so hungry. This is my second child but my DD was bottle fed not boob, so some things are new to me this time.

Now first of all he has reflux and is on medication for it, Losec. He vomits a lot.
The pead says if he'll take solids, give them, as he tells me that the theory on what age to start solids is now returning to 4 months not 6 months. All babies are ready at different times in my opinion and we each need to judge our own baby.

So he's hungry, he's very strong for his age, wants my food, is waking in the night hungry when he used to sleep through etc. He will eat anything we give him, sweet potatoe, pumpkin, cereal, pear, apple, avacado. Loves it all, sleeps well on full tummy, drinks tonnes of Breast milk, lots of wet nappies, drinks 80ml of water with mild pear juice a day.

    but does not poo!! yipes.

Had to stop solids as he just wasn't pooing. then we'd have 3-4 days of big pains, screaming, pushing, grunting etc. when he does poo it's thick and pastey, and upsets him. Even being off the solids now(for the last week), his poo has not returned to it's prior breast milk runny consistency, its still as described above and causing him discomfort.

He is getting heaps of fluids, having lots of wet nappies and is basically on the boob all day...hungry. I have heaps of milk. he gets upset when we eat, won't feed when i eat cause he is mesmerised by my food.
He is also chewing his hands or my fingers very very hard, red marks on his fists etc, could he be teething?

It's just so hard, he has reflux pains, vomits and feeds all day, is hungry for solids but then has pains with wind and poo.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Hi there - my baby has also recently started solids and last week was quite constipated - still doing poos often but very small and hard. I cut out rice cereal for a couple of days and made up some prune juice - put undilute prune juice in with her solids and got her to drink prune juice - diluted with water (half prune juice half water) and all got sorted within two days. Not sure if you have tried prune juice but might be worth a shot. Let me know if you need to know how to make it
    good luck

I also cut out the iron fortified cereals and alternated with pureed fruit every second day. I would do one day fruit for brekky, one day cereal with fruit (50/50 mix) and one day straight cereal. When DD got blocked up I did the prune juice thing too.

Her system soon sorted itself out.

HTH and good luck. It's not nice seeing babies in that state

I found banana worked well for my DS to get things moving along when he first started solids.

We used to use camomile tea and brown sugar, worked a treat on DD1

    Thanks everyone,

we ended up having to ring the pead yesterday as we live a fair way from the city. He said we have done everything right, DS has been off the solids for the last week and half, just some pureed pear here and there, plus at least 80ml a day of diluted pear juice, in fact yesterday he had 200ml of diluted pear juice. Nothing is helping, so the pead said the only choice now is to stop the Losec, the reflux medication, as the solids and Losec both started around the same time, and since we have stopped the solids and it hasn't helped, it is all pointing at the medication.
So this morning he is not getting his medicine, and we'll see how he goes, I am worried as he screams in pain with his reflux, and now being off all medication, I can see we are going to be in for a tough time. The peads plan is if we can get him onto sloids again, (since he loves them) it may help to keep the contents of his stomach down and mean less vomiting and less refluxing, but it's all just trial and error.

I just wanted to let you all know what is happening, and in case someone else finds that Losec plays havoc with their baby's digestive system. Also his wind smells terrible, I mean clear the room terrible. So again it's all being blamed on the Losec although the pead said he's Never had this happen to any other baby. It's just a wait and see game, if his bowels and wind settle then it must of been the Losec, if it doesn't settle......I guess we'll have to look into it some more.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and help, I will try some out for sure, it helps to be able to log on and see that I'm not alone, and that people are willing to offer suggestions and ideas, thanks so much
