Unhappy DS not a fruit eater

    Desperate for help!!!

I am at my wits end regarding what to do with DS who does not eat ANY fruit! From what I have observed, he doesn't like the texture of fruit, whether on its own or in yoghurt. He tends to pick it out when it is in yoghurt and just likes the flavour. DS prefers savoury to sweet and is happy to chow down cooked vegies and meat with rice - but just not fruit whether pureed or not.

If anyone has any advice/stories on how to get the little ones to start eating fruit it would be greatly appreciated!! I am so concerned that he doesn't eat fruit as he will be starting pre-kindy next year and with stipulations that there is to be no nuts and honey (and something else that's banned but I can't seem to remember at the moment), its possible DS will be starving when he goes.

DD1 won't touch fruit with a 10foot pole! She eats every other food under the sun but not fruit. I've never had a problem at kindy with it, they give her a bowl of vegies while the others eat fruit lol.

My DS won't eat fruit either. He will eat yoghurt with no "bits" in it though.

I can, however, get him to eat tinned pineapple - it's a battle to get the first piece in his mouth but after that he will eat the rest. Would tinned fruit be an option?

My DS is picky with fruit

Only likes apples (have to be peeled) and grapes (and will sometimes spit out the skin) plums (again will eat around the skin).....bananas.....sometimes!

I just make sure I keep offering....or leaving it around for the taking. I don't force the issue, but just have to persist. If there is nothing else, then it's tough bikkies for DS!

My DS2 doesn't eat any vegies at all. Loves fruit! Opposite to yours.
How about trying a homemade fruit smoothie or juice?
Kinder are pretty used to picky eaters, if you explain I am sure they will accommodate.
Like the other BB'ers say, just keep offering you may even find at Kinder he will want to eat what the other kids eat and give it a go. For some reason when everyone else is eating they tend to eat without realising what it is they are eating sometimes

    Good luck

Thanks ladies for your prompt reponse to my dilemma! I am hoping that by watching other kids eat fruit, he too will eat. His big brother LOVES fruit and ends up eating his portion because DS just plays with it or throws it The kindy that my DS's go to don't supply food - I have to provide the food myself. I guess this is why I am super worried.

Curly: I have not gone down the tinned fruit option. I will try that, thank you for the suggestion and hopefully it'll be successful!

MiniMax: Ive been told you have to present the same food to a fussy child/or when introducing a new food to a child 10 times before they'll consider accepting it. I'm trying not to forceful but sometimes it gets to me

Heather72: he doesn't like juice of any sort, just prefers water. In this instance, I hope he gives in to peer pressure like you said with other kids eating fruit
