Once DD2 is in PP I am planning on going back to work. Hopefully half days so that I can still fetch them from school and be home for homework etc. But what happens during the holidays? We don't have any family here so no chance of that. Are there centers that care for kids during holidays or is there a way around this?
hanging about at train stations and shopping centres.....
Have you checked with your school? Some of them run school holiday programs, not all but there should be at least in your area. I think you can claim CCB for them too. Check your local paper, our local pool run holiday programs as well.
Most schools that run a before or after-school care usually run a holiday program as well, if they don't they should be able to provide with details of an OSHC that does. If not give Camp Australia a call, they run holiday programs, there "might" be one close to you.
Miss H- in Perth the YMCA offers before, after and holiday care programs in about 15-20 locations around the metro area, the programs are really good ( I worked for them while i was studying at uni) and the kids get a good variety of activities. Alot of local councils run them from their rec centres as well, I live in Midland and I know there is a program run at Swan Aquatic, I also know Belmont leisure centre runs a program as well. Often whatever program is run in the area of your school, will send home their brochures with the school newsletter about 4-5 weeks before the school holidays.
You may also find your child makes some friends who can help out too. Depends on if you are FT/PT but I have friends that swap days with each other. It is a juggle tho, good luck!
My DD always attended either family day care, who have extra spaces for school aged children, or school holiday care run thru OSHC in nearby schools. TBH I was happier to have her go to FDC when she was littler, but now that she's older and more social she prefers the broader mix of activities, excursions etc that the school hol care offers. Our OSHC (which doesn't run a holiday program) hands out the programs for all the surrounding schools, DD then chooses which excursions she wants to do...last hols it was fun stuff like going to a waterslide, museum, and 2 x movies at the cinemas.
