    3 days of high fever

    Hi All,

DD experienced high fever of 39.5 since Tuesday
got up to 40.7 the night before

I went to to the docs but he didnt say much as I need to see him again this Saturday after the urine sample i had to give him gets tested.

He suspects it might be urinary tract infection.

I have given her panadol and nurofen (only nurofen seems to work though)

Currently she is at 37.5 (which is still high but better than before)

My question is what adverse effect does it have on a child with such a high fever for 3 days! and should i have taken her to the hospital instead of the doctors?

Im getting so panicky but i dont want her to go to the hospital as i am scared it will do her more harm than good (with all the other viruses floating around).

Also, does UTI cause high fevers?

    Thanks!

id say if her temp is down to 37.5 then id say shes on the mend, 37.5 is getting back to normal and isnt a concern. hope shes feeling better soon

    I forgot to mention
apart from the fever and sleepyness she doesnt have any other symptoms such as coughing or blocked nose or continual vomitting (she did vomit once last night but i thinks he was choking on her phlegm)

yes a UTI will cause fever. wait for the urine results and see what is going on. But also, there has been a virus going around lasting 2-4 days where children are spiking temps up to 40. Hope your little one recoveres soon!

yep UTI can cause high fever. hopefully you are over the worst of it now. its an anxious time when they have fevers. generally fevers are a good sign that the body is fighting the infection. still cant help but worry hey.

Ds had roseola last week - three days of high temps then a rash all over his torso and temps came back down

Oh hun, it can be really difficult when they have fevers for such a long time

It can be an UTI, I hope you get the results back soon, has bub been crying out when urinating?

DD had a virus which ended up being a reaction to the 18 month injection, caused high fevers for 4 days and she did end up in hospital, but that was only due to being dehydrated, we couldn't get any medication or fluids into her for over two days.

So as long as bub is still having fluids, food isn't a big concern, and is taking the neurofen/panadol to treat the fever then staying home is so much better

    Take care xxoo

    Thanks ladies

You dont know how much this has helped me. I dont have the internet at home yet so was quite upset i couldnt get advice from you guys until today.

She has been drinking normal which is good. Always wanting milk which i am not suppose to give her as the doc said it is worse for her when she vomits it up.

She's still running around but just looks very sickly (her eyes are drooping for example).

I hope i have collected enough urine to get the results back as it was so hard

    Thanks once again oxoxo
