    sudden drop to one sleep..

up until sunday, DD (12 months) usually only lasts 3 hours between sleeps, so two a day ranging from 40-90 mins, usually 2x40 mins. shes been unwell since last friday with a runny nose and now a sinus infection.

so this sudden dropping of one sleep-
tuesday slept 35min all day , yep was bad
    wednesday slept 2 hours..yippee
thursday slepr for 50 mins... no so yippee

so how can i get her to sleep longer??
ive tried to resettle but she wont have a bar of it and only makes EVERYTHING worse including at night, so i would like to aviod that. will she just eventually sleep longer consistantly?
anyone else had a catnapper who dropped to one and slept better?? needing reassurance here!!

My DD was always a great day sleeper...at least 2 hours at a time, but this changed at 12 months, and she alternates between 1 and 2 sleeps. I never get longer then 1.5 hours out of her though and she usually goes down at about 11am. BUT on the days she has one sleep she is feral by 5pm, which alternates with the days she has two sleeps she is up until 9pm (which is waaay too late for my liking).

Don't think this helped at all...just a shared vent really. I am hanging out for the time she can be up until about 1pm and then sleep all arvo.

Ashton used to have 2 sleeps until he turned 13 months. Then he changed to one sleep which goes from 2-3 hours normally. Some days he only naps for 40 minutes in the pram if we are out. I find those days he normally goes down a bit earlier at night.

You know how bad Nate was. Well once I figured out that he only really wanted on sleep about 3 weeks ago, he wwent from crappy nights to much better.
He has a feed and goes to sleep at 11.30 on.the.dot. At first he'd only do less than an hour. Now he's up to 1 1/2hours. I'm happy with that as it is way more than he was doing with me making him have 2 sleeps.
The best bit is that we went from midnight bed times to 6pm on.the.dot. Any later and he's a feral.

I'd keep trying for a bit, as she is probably still getting used to the new sleep pattern herself. It's a bit of a PITA isn't it. You suddenly need to rearrange your old way of doing things.

DS1 was a shocking catnapper as a babe, but now, at almost 2 he sleeps more than he did at 1 - go figure?! 12 hours usually these days! Lucky me He dropped to 1 sleep a day at about 14 months i think.

Hope you have a better day today

DD was always a cat napper, even in the earlly days it would only ever be 40mins during the day, night time wasnt alot better either Once she hit 10-12months she started having one day sleep and it would last anywhere between 40mins and 3 hrs....it usually averaged out to be 2hrs. So keep persisiting with the one sleep it will get longer eventually, took DD a good week.

Yes, me! DS has/had always been a shocking sleeper, and when transistioning to 1 day sleep did have some horrible days where he'd only slept 30-40mins the whole day. Yuck yuck yuck.

He's now 16 months (dropped to 1 day sleep around 12 months), and some days I feel like my baby has been abducted by aliens and replaced by one that will sleep As I type he has been asleep for 1.25 hours and counting, no resettling, no waking - bliss. He's so much happier these days.

For us the key was putting him down a little later than he seemed to need it bit by bit so he was going down around 11amish. His sleeps have just stretched out naturally. Sometimes I can resettle him though - occasionally he'll fall asleep randomly on the floor as I change him after having woken, and sleep for another hour LOL

So hang in there, it most likely will get better as he gets older *hugs* With us it did take longer than a week as some others have posted, but really worth the wait.....

Oh and another thing that I think helped was topping him up on snacks until about 30 mins before he went down so he wouldn't stir and feel hungry. We have lunch when he wakes up at 1 or so.

We seem to be going through a phase where DD (12mo in 5 days) will have 2 naps some days and 1 nap on others. The one nap is usually at 11am and lasts 2-3hrs, the two naps are morning and afternoon for an hour/hour and a half each. I am finding it really hard to know which way she wants it each day because night sleeps seem to be the same (8pm to 7:30am with one or two feeds).

Today, I have been trying to get her down for a nap since 9:30am because she seemed tired but she has only just gone down 20mins ago... I think today will be one nap but for how long is anyone's guess!
