    Finger Foods

Tristan is almost 9 months old. He's only 6.5kg but boy does he have an appetite! Anyway just want to get some ideas as I'm thinking about putting him straight onto 'real' food (not pureed, mashed ect) He's been tolerating roughly 150-200grams twice a day and about 100 grams for breakfast (pureed) He is still breastfed getting roughly 4 feeds a day.

Anyway I was thinking about just making him exactly what we eat, just little pieces. He tolerates peas and corn kernels, so I don't think he will have much trouble with anything else.

What did you do? Was it a gradual introduction or did you just switch?

I was thinking I'll see how he goes keeping him on two good meals a day (breakkie and lunch), until he starts eating a good quantity of the cut up food and then offering for all meals based on how his weight goes with the transition.

Brendan went straight from puree to eating sandwiches within 2-3 weeks of having his tongue-tie fixed (18 months) so I'm not too sure on how to go about it at this age.

Have you checked out the BLS (Baby Led Solids) Chatter threads?? They'd probably have some great ideas

Have a look in this area (as Shades suggested): Baby Led Solids - Pregnancy, Birth & Baby Forums ~ BellyBelly

I started DD on finger foods from 6 mths. She took to them at about 7 mths. She was essentially eating the same meals as us from then on (smaller sizes, and cut up so she could handle it).

    Sure, Sally!

The chatter thread is usually full of different suggestions on what's been tried and others have found success with: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...er-4-a-16.html

Sally, I don't often go into the BLS chatter, I just can't keep up, so i'll just offer my experience here.
I don't have any experience with premmie bubs though, so not sure if it's different.

Nate started with pieces of veges, but he just wasn't really into them. I thought it was him getting used to stuff but when it didn't improve I thought I'd better change tack.
I watched my GFs shovelling food into their bubs mouths and was worried about the quantity of my little guy's intake so I tried him on 'proper baby food' - he didn't like that one bit either lol and probably ate less.
So I just started giving him what we had. Flavorings and all (we don't use salt when cooking). He was much happier. He still doesn't eat a lot, but he eats more of the food that is offered as opposed to just chewing and throwing it on the ground.
So in short yes, I went straight from what he was having to our food. I have no idea on quantity though sorry.

    Thanks Kim! That's helpful

Thanks Jennifer, I'll have a read through those now!

I chopped up some roast vegies last night and he had a good try at them, didn't eat a whole lot and was given his normal food afterwards. He's loving peas and corn though so we are sort of there really, it's just a case of adding in different things.

    Thanks again.
    xx
