Ok so DD self weaned 2 weeks ago (long story) which was completely unexpected. We are booked to leave o/s 1 day after her first birthday in June. She is now on formula.
Soooo the big question is : We are going for 6 weeks so do I take formula with us (which is a hell of a lot to carry for that time frame) or do I try her on cows milk beforehand even tho it isnt really recomended before 12 mths and see how she goes on that? I dont want to try her on cows milk for the first time when we are away in the event that she has a reaction/upset tummy.
Incidentally we are going to the UK, Croatia and Dubai where I can get pasturised milk from all of these places. In Croatia I would be very limited to the types of formula I could purchase and wouldnt want to try her on anything new.
So what would you do? Lug 6 tins of formula (all the more room for shopping on the way home!!) or try her on cows milk beforehand?
hi there
I think you would be pretty safe to purchase formula and bottled water in those countries.
Get to a pharmacy that is reputable and it would be fine.
You can try Cows before if you wanted to i guess but i know my kids get the runs on it lol... that wouldnt be fun on a plane or on holidays if bub had the same effect
Thanks Pink Palace - Dubai and England I know wont be a problem but I know in Croatia that there isnt a huge variety especially in the villages where we are staying so dont necessarily want to try her on a new type IYKWIM?
I would test on her cows milk on things like her cereal. Does she eat yoghurt and eat things you cook with cows milk?
The other thing you can get are those tetra packs of S26 so it's ready made and easy to take travelling. Most formula's are cows milk based I think???? So if she is on a formula already, I think it would be ok to taste test her on the odd cup of milk.
Keep up the the formula and also try the cows milk before you leave. Then if she is ok with the cows milk here you will be ok.
Hope that makes sense, I seem to be rambling
