sooo hungry... but in too much pain!

The past 2 days i have had a really painful tongue.
the tip and both edges sting and are itchy.

I dont remember burning it - especially only of the edging and it hurts to mouth breathe, talk and eat!

    sooo hungry!

have taken antiinflamatorys and even given DS's bongela a whizz but still no good

I have had a similar thing (not quite as bad as you describe) recently and i mentioned it to my GP while i was there about other stuff and she said it looks a bit infected...dont know how.

I was given a script incase i needed it but have'nt bothered with it.
My tongue still looks a bit ordinary but its not hurting anymore.

Not sure if its the same or not !

Goodluck - i agree - it does hurt.

Ther's a step up from Bonjela that you can get - SM33 or Medijel. Both are awesome for numbing the area - totally affects your ability to taste, but will at least let you get some food in.
I'm using both at the moment for a niggly wisdom tooth. The Medijel tastes like after dinner mint - it's delicious! Only then you can't taste much.

    Sounds horrible *sympathy hug*
can you ignore the pain and eat. stimulating the saliva would probably help.

You might need to see a dr to get to the root of the problem...do you think it might be thrush-related? IN which case some swish-around-your mouth drops might be good, otherwise there are some good lozenges you can get on a script which are both antifungal and antibacterial. In the meantime you might get some relief trying to eat by using a mouthwash like difflam which will numb the pain so you can get some soft food down.

In the meantime, concentrate on soft cool energy-dense foods - scrambled eggs, smoothies, chuck a bit of extra skim milk powder or cheese in to boost the calorie content so you can eat less but not be so hungry.

    Hi MD
Nah its not thrush. it is only on the egdes of my tongue not the mucosa or the top at all.

Scrambled eggs sounds yummy actually (and i dont really eat eggs... arrhh cravings - jokin!).

I managed to get an english muffin in if i had some coke id gargle it lol!
