How to dispose of video tapes?

Are there any environmental issues with throwing video tapes in the garbage?
What's the best way to dispose of them?

Reverse Garbage in Brisbane will take them - bit of a trek for you though! Contact Reverse Garbage in Sydney and see if they'll take them off your hands. Some op shops take them too.

They're a massive environmental issue. Nothing you can fix - but they shouldn't have been made in the first place! CDs are worse. I'll stop now before I get really mad.
