Dummies Guide to Food Additives - I need a crash course

DD has been having huge sleeping and behavioural problems (thats a whole other thread ) so it really has got me researching what could be causing these problems and one of my thoughts and also suggestions from others is that it could be food additives.
I have just discovered that grapes and strawberries are bad and DD has been eating these every day and pretty much every night before bed, this could be our problem with her not sleeping. Anyway time will tell as we eliminate these foods from her diet. I cant believe fruit which I thought was so good for her are actually terrible.

What I am after is where do I start, what are the magic numbers that I should avoid, what foods have had a bad effect on your family. I have been on the fed up with food additives website which is great and have ordered the book at the library but in the meantime I need a crash course.

Would love to hear your stories and experiences.
    Thanks
    xoxo

Salad. Haven't read your other thread, and am certainly no expert, but will offer my experience with what you asked.

My two cyclones () had a great deal of trouble chilling out, so I asked this very question. I did look into the failsafe diet, but I wasn't plussed with it. not because it was too hard, but because my kids diet is extremely varied with lots of different non processed foods and I didn't want to limit them to only a few. I wanted a way around to help without causing another problem.
I printed off their additive list and I use that when shopping. I also read the book you mentioned and follow that.
Basically i aim for as little processed food as possible, I switched to either Bakers delight or Wollies bread (without nasty preservatives). Ummmm the only biscuits I buy are arrowroot or plain rice crackers, grapes/strawberries like you mentioned are a treat only occasionally. I only buy preservative/additive free products.

It has really helped. DD is much more chilled out and DS isn't so angry. However, it hasn't helped his sleep any, but we have since discovered another issue for him, and are in the process of sorting that out.

    HTH a little.

Thanks Kim, I have also picked myself up a copy of Additive Alert tonight, I need to educate myself. I am the same as you I dont want there to be nothing left for DD to eat but I want to be aware of what is in food and better product choices. We have a pretty good diet as is but I guess there are many things I didnt/dont know about such as the grapes.
    Thanks for your reply.
