My poor darling girls has an ear infection and has been on anti-biotics since tuesday. She is still in alot of pain and we haven't slept in 4 nights so we are all abit worse for waer. Olive hasn't eaten since monday and last night I took her to the hospital as she was in extreme pain and we couldn't settle her.
The doctor said that she thinks it is just her stomach being sore from panadol and AB's and to try and get her to eat (der). I have tried sooo amny things. Anyway I asked them to look in her ears to see if they were getting better, no cause we already know her ears are sore?
I then said that I think she has a sore tongue as I could see it was a bit red and they didn't even look in her mouth. The nurse actually said "maybe she was just having a tantrum".
Anyway today I took Olive to the chemist and showed him the now olcerated mouth. tongue and swollen, bleeding gums and it turns out she has oral thrush really bad.
We are beside ourselves with worry and just want her to get better.
Any suggestions anyone has would be much appreciated.
Should I take her back to the docs and see if she can have different AB?
How can I get her to eat as she is losing weight?
I would start probiotics now - they won't interfere with the antibiotic, and if she has oral thrush that badly, she probably has a very sore tummy as well. Prepare yourself for some diarrhoea. And get some daktarin / nilstat or some other oral antifungal for the mouth, and use bonjela and paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief. Poor little mite.
Thanks,
I just took Olive back to the hospital to get them to check her ear to see if I could stop the AB. They said it is still abit red so not to. The nurse also said to try Bonjella half an hour before meals along with panadol to reduce the pain before meals. I will also start probiotics now as the nurse said that the thrush might be more likely to become vaginal as well if I don't start them now.
She has been having Daktarin Gel since yesterday which has been a challenge as she hates taking it. The pharmacy said that it won't really work until the AB have stopped though which is why I wanted to see if Olive's ear was better but seeing as it isn't we will keep perservering.
So I feel abit better knowing that I have something else to try today, lets hope it works.
She must be so hungryhaving not eaten since monday night.
Should I be sterilizing everything that goes into her mouth, I forgot to ask them that at the hospital?
Thanks again
