    Regestration proof and benefits

We registered DD birth straight away but just saw on line it takes 4 weeks to get the slip back- i have applied for parenting payment and family assistance but they both want the proof of birth by this thursday or the application will expire- this is crazy!\

WE badly need the money asap but cant do anything now it seems untill we get the slip?

how did everyone else do this? could i just talk to centrelink? cant they just talk to the registry ?

    Help on what to do

I think you'll find they won't budge - they need the birth certificate to process ANYTHING.

But don't despair - we got our certificate in about 10 working days, so it may not be the full 4 weeks!

And they should backpay you anything you are entitled to.

    Hang in there!

Centrelink won't talk to the registry. Maybe you could ring and find out the expected ETA. Or see if you can get it fast tracked?? I remember with DD2 it took 5 weeks to come through.

I think theres a registration number on the form. Maybe you could give this to centrelink and let them know what date you registered the birth (the date you signed the forms)
Centrelink might make you wait but they will back pay you from the time you gave birth. (Dont know about application expiring) but we were backpaid to date of birth quite a bit of money....

do you have the form given to you by the hospital? the one to apply for ftb and medicare card? if you have that, on the back of it is proof of birth for c'link purposes. the doctor or midwife will have signed it saying you delivered, what date, what gender. the birth certificate is ONLY required if you are applying for a parenting payment after the ftb is already current. if you are applying for both at the same time, that will be sufficient proof of birth

with birth deaths and marriages, did you send off payment for birth certificate? if you didn't, you won't get a copy of it anyway - the birth will be registered, but you'll not receive and actual certificate

if the application expired, your FTB will be backdated to date of birth - parenting payment won't be. you have two weeks to provide all requested information from the date of first contact - if it's not provided, you need to reapply and will only be paid from that new application date (again, provided all requested info is in within 2 weeks)

sorry if that's blunt - just putting it out there how the system is set up

    hope it helps

ETA - for all proof of ID purposes, you require the birth certificate (the one you pay for - not the pretty one) - an extract or receipt of registration is not accepted
