Had my 20 week scan today, and all was well with bub! Also found out It was a boy!
Also, she said that my placenta was half covering the birth canal, and that i would need to have another scan in the 3rd tri to see if it has moved. Anyone else have this? What happens if it doesn't move?
yes I had this with my second pregnancy, it's very common & most times it does move as you progress with your pregnancy. I had the extra scan around 30 something weeks (wow I can't even remember & it was less than 6months ago) and all was good. Had moved far enough away.
If it doesn't move away they may want you to have a c-sect.
I had this with my 1st bub (Placenta Previa) but luckily it moved up around 35wks taking me out of the high risk category and allowing me to have a VB instead of a C-section...
it is very common and more common for them to move up in later pregnancy...if it doesn't move there can be some bleeding involved and a c-section is necessary, but your medical practitioner will have more info and a strategy if it doesn't move...
hi, its very common for placentas to be low lying. the fact that it is only half covering your cervix means that there is a good chance of it moving up in the third trimester. if it doesnt then u will need to have a c section. i had a grade 4 previa which meant that it covered my whole cervix and i was unlucky that it didnt move. i googled previa's when i first found out i had one so that i knew what to expect. try not to worry tho. i am happy to answer any q's if u have any just pm me. good luck
I had a low lying placenta as well at my 20 week scan. I have to have another one a 32 weeks to see if it's moved up.
My Ob said it is very common and there is about an 80% chance that it will move up and won't cause any issues. It all depends on where the placenta is attached to your uterus though. But at 20 weeks your uterus is still fairly small so there is a high chance of it being attched in a place that as your cervix grows your placenta moves away from your cervix.
If it is still low lying at the scan they give you in your 3rd trimester you'll most likely be told you'll have to have a c-section.
Yep I had it with my first, mine was very close not covering. It hadn't moved by the scan at 32 weeks so I had to have a c/section.
Try not to worry about it too much yet because there is nothing you can do to make it move out of the way. It will do it by itself and I think it's about 95% of them that do move away. Definitely get another scan at around 32 weeks and if it hasn't moved much then ask for another scan around 37 weeks to make sure.
