ok, DF generally handles paying our bills, budgeting etc as i am REALLY shocking with numbers. also i am not working so all money is coming from him.
but on the off chance this morning i opened the mail and found:
-a disconnection warning from the gas company
-a threat of a court date from an old internet company for the last payment (from 5 months ago)
-a notice from transport sa saying the rego on a car had been un-renewed for 90+ days, only thing being we sold that car to a friend 8 months ago...
as far as i knew DF had negotiated a different due date for the gas payment cos a massive electricity bill was due the same week with the same company.
i also thought the internet bill was sorted but i found an UNOPENED letter from the debt collectors for the internet company from 2 weeks ago that i didnt know about and obviously DF forgot to even open it...
and we signed the paperwork for the change of ownership on the car so y did it never get lodged??
i no i shouldnt be too angry/upset cos there is prob a perfectly reasonable explanation and DF has been stressed out of his brain @ work but aaargh!! we had just spent months getting our finances under control when i lost my job, i was looking forward to ACTUALLY being able to buy some stuff for the bubs since he is only a few months away but obviously some things slipped thru... and i may or may not have sent him an email wanting answers without recieving a call or email in reply...
ok, rant over! im off to attack some cleaning while i have the energy
Oh, my goodness - you must be in total shock. I don't know what to say other than find out what is going on with your DH & start trying to negotiate with the companies for a payment plan (if you can't afford to pay all of the amounts outstanding).
ring the internet company and sort that out first.
ring the gas place - they may have given you an extension but the mail has crossed over - otherwise sort it out on the phone
Do you have copied of the change of ownership paperwork?
Call the Roads authority in your state and ask them what you need to do.
you shouldt have to pay the rego, but its more if a crime or anything like that happens with the car and its in your name...
Do you still have your half of the change of ownership slip from the car? If you do take that into your local ServiceSA office.
As for the internet and gas, unless DF has you listed as authorised to make enquiries about it you may have trouble getting through to them. If you have any money in the bank now I would recommend you make at least a partial payment now.
Look into some financial counselling now. The debt collection notice will have put a black mark against your credit rating which you do not want.
thanks girls, i have calmed down a bit now after 2 loads of washing and some vacuuming! lol
i spoke to DF and he is talking to our friend now about the car not changing ownership yet (they work together).
as alioops said, i cant access the gas or internet accounts cos they are in DF's name cos he lived in this house with these services long before i even came into the picture & we never bothered changing it...
as for the internet bill, we used to be with MyBudget who handle all your bills, debtors, payments etc and DF thought they had payed the stupid bill so it must have come in the changeover period and hence got missed.
gas he did renegotiate and thinks the letter got sent about the same time he talked to them...
so in summary crisis solved (hopefully) but looks like we are going to have a tight week this week with the money for internet not being budgeted for *sigh* so no baby stuff this week!
