Buying new sheets - advice on thread count/material needed

I need to buy new sheets.

I want them to be nice and soft from the get go.

My understanding is that the higher the thread count the softer the sheet...but then I have also heard that a high thread count will mean a warmer sheet. Living on the Sunshine Coast...with a DH that is a hot sleeper anyway...this could be an issue.

Should I be concentrating perhaps not on the thread count but rather the type of cotton it is eg pima, Egyptian, cotton percale?

    Hi Curly,

Thats correct the higher the thread count the softer the sheets are, my advice would be to go with the Egyptian cotton they are the best sheets you will get, although a little exxy i really believe they are worth the money.

Yep, a higher thread count is best - I don't know about them being warmer?
We have 1000 thread count sheets (that I got on sale at Spotlight BTW, for $40!) and I do find them a bit warmer I guess; but I don't know if it's just them or if it's the thread count ITMS.
