Some have you may have seen my post a couple of weeks ago about separating from DH. Well more to that, I'm heading to Queensland to stay with family for who knows how long... on a one way ticket.
I've done two flights alone with DD when she was 2-3months old which was fine. But now that she is more mobile and bigger to handle I'm a little concerned. I will need to be at the airport at 530pm to check in and catch first flight. Then I will have 3 hrs in Perth between flights leaving on the red eye. Then again 3 hrs in Brisbane before boarding the final plane. So, my question is, What do you do with your bubs when you need to go to the toilet? I can't imagine going 16hrs without using the loo I will have a bubba moe sling but now that she is bigger I can't see that working.
I know plenty of people do it and cope but just wondering what your secrets are? I won't have pram as that will be checked in.
I think you definately need a good carrier - maybe like an ergo? even a baby bjorn. Maybe check ebay? I think its a MUST for travelling.
Ive done heaps of trips with my girls to Melb and Perth.
Are you b-fing? B-fing was wonderful on my trips!
Also I like to stick to their normal bedtime routines if I can - if going on an evening flight I would do dinner & bath & jammies before the airport.
I don't know what else I can recommend?
All the best though
Thanks sneaky sparkle. I do have a baby bjorn although hardly used it. DD isn't as much of a fan and her legs are so long they are constantly in my way so prefer to use the sling on the hip.
I will request with Qantas to have a bassinet seat (if the plane we travel on has them) as she is only pettite and light so should still fit in one. I'm thinking the flight will be quite busy though given that it is the end of school holidays and a Friday night.
I have flown heaps with my kids.. 3 weeks to 3 years.. Melbourne to Canada,
I give my child to someone sitting next to me or a flight attendant..
they are not going to take off anywhere with your kid on a plane!!! and you need to go to the toilet i am sure.
Relax it will be ok, do Pj's on teh plane for sure.and little snacks.
Definitely get yourself a good baby carrier. Have a look at an Ergo, your bub's legs go around your waist rather than hanging down (much better for their spine). You can go to the toilet with them too LOL! You can wear Ergos on your front, hip or back.
We travelled to NZ with Natty at that age and she was brilliant. I realise your travel time is longer though so can understand your concern.
When travelling to melbs by myself with Phoebe I found the staff can be amazingly helpful when you're on your own with a bubba. I am sure they will be delighted to hold bubs while you duck into the loo. If you're not comfortable with that, you will manage bubs on your lap while having a wee, LOL!
