Hi i am just after some help.

I am currently pregnant and really want to have VBA3C. with my last son the docter told me i had no option but caesarean i am now learning that i do have an option and i really want to take it. I am struggling with finding a OB or hospital that will let me do it. i am due in oct. i am looking at attending Nepean public hospital in sydney and was wondering if anyone knows of women who have had VBAC'S there or no of a OB near that supports it

    thank you

I had a VBA2C (so not exactly your question) and I went with independent midwives through an independent birth centre to have mine. My midwife had actually had a VBA3C herself.

Is that an option at all? FWIW, I had a supportive OB but I moved from Queensland to tassie, so didn't find an OB down here willing to risk it.

I have looked into IM and found a really good one the only problem is she is expensive and not sure if the hospital will allow it.

I am prepared for another C/S if need be but with my last i went into labour early and after 4 hours was already half way so i felt really cheated thanks to the staff and doctors.

Thanks for your help though i will just try and find as much info as possible and fight them all the way. they should at least let women try as most hospitals have the resources if something does happen.

If you get an IM you don't need to go through the hospital

Maybe shop around - mine was only $1500.

I have had a VBA2C....I used an Independant Midwife for support at home and took her with me to a private hospital when it was time for the birth.

I found the hospital was very accommodating about having my own midwife, but she was there only in a supporting role.....IM's are not allowed to do any of the medical stuff in the hospital so they are there with you as a support person only.
I was upfront at my booking in appointment about bringing my own IM and they noted it in my file. My IM was also known to my hospital as well, so she had a bit of a rapore with them which was handy. Having the extra support was well worth the money. I payed about $1500ish too for birth support and a few antenatal appointments (shared care with my OB).

I don't know anything about Nepean Public and VBAC's.....sorry, but I do know that John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle are very pro VBAC and have read of a few women who have travelled the couple of hours from sydney there to have VBA2Cs. Apparently the head OB is very pro VBAC so if you don't mind the travel that might be an option!!

Good Luck I hope you can find some support for your VBA3C.

My doula is currently attempting a VBA3C - she is going through Liverpool Hospital. I am not sure who her Obs is - she sees the midwives at Campbelltown for her antenatal care but at delivery she will have to go to Liverpool.

She has had several meetings with the Head Obstetrician and Head Midwife at Liverpool Hospital and I feel she has had to do a lot of evidence providing but I feel it will all be worth it.

Had she not been so determined in her fight I think they would have told her she could only have a CS.

Here is a birth story for you that I found on ICAN......it's a VBA3C - not perfect in the eyes of the mum, but still a successful VBA3C in a hospital setting VBA3C story

Definitely shop around for an IM as they all charge different amounts.

I noticed you arent in Melbourne, but thought I would let you know I will having a VBA3C in September. I will have my own IM and will be birthing at a public hospital. Have the full support of the head of obstetric service, he even wrote me a letter of support for my file. Really important to have the support of a midwife that can be with you at home and then go into hospital with you when the time is right. Best of luck...it IS possible!!

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum. I am trying a VBA3C in August 2010. At the moment I plan to go to Newcastle and try a VBA3C with Dr Bisits. I am in Adelaide and planning to travel to Newcastle when I am 38 weeks. I am looking for other alternatives as unfortunately, he might be changing jobs from Newcastle to Sydney and also I can't get an independent midwife who is willing to travel to Newcastle. Can you tell me who is your independent midwife who will be supporting you for your VBA3C and also contact details of the obs in Melbourne please? Thank you.

He didn't tell me by email when I wrote to him. He told me in person when I saw him at JHH. I am still waiting to find out which is very unsettling as he doesn't know when he will know earliest is June latest is Aug/Sept.

home birthing is amazing and I admire women who do, but it's not something I feel comfortable with for myself.

Dr Bisits is getting back to me about it all so hopefully someone just as pro-VBAC comes into his place
