    Insurance (car) cover notes..

    Do they still exist?

The last time i took out a car insurance policy i did it over the phone, and gota 7 day cover note (so 7 days to pay)

Do they still do it this way?
    Do cover notes still exist?

Mine has expired so I needa new policy, and I'll be able to pay for it in 7 days but not today. So previously Id have been able to get a cover note, but it seems like these days you have to pay on the spot by CC or direct deposit?

When I did my car insurance through NRMA I did it over the net and they sent me the bill. The payment wasn't due for 4 weeks

We did our new car in February with AAMI, and when i went through to pay for it, it said we had 7 days to pay if we didn't want to do it then. I got the quote online as well, which was cheaper than ringing for a quote. I think if we paid online as well, it worked out about $100 cheaper than if we were to walk in to pay..

I wonder if you can still do this if you pay by the month. I will call them and find out.
We are looking at AAMI too.

Pandora, have you tried AAMI online and used their quote calculator?
They tell you how much it will be, but also email the quote to you (if you tick that box) with a clickable link in it to go back and retireve it and pay. I'm sure once you go through the whole quote, it gives you the payment options, I do remember monthly being on there. You can do the whole process without having to pay. I did a quote for our new car when we were just looking at it online. Was about another 3 weeks before DH had all the paperwork organised, and a few days before he picked up the car, we clicked on the link in the email, went back to the quote and paid for it online (with CC though, so did not take any notice of bank transfer or monthly withdrawals from bank accounts)

    Thanks Nic.
I did do the quote online, but when it said pay online as the option I thought that meant you had to pay it now.
Ive rung them (and gone through thte process) and figured out that you can set the first payment to any day of the month you like, so its all good

    Thanks everyone!
