I assume she does it thinking ppl can't see her if she can't see them, kind of cute! But she's been doing it more and more of late. She used to make a lot of eye contact with strangers when out and about but these days she just covers her eyes when strangers look at her. I guess she's just at an age where she is more aware?
Anyone else experienced this? Is it anything to be concerned about or just a toddler quirk?
My eldest son went through that when he was about 2 and a half. It turned out he was just shy but as he got more confident as a person in his own right, he stopped doing it. It seemed to give him the feeling of being alone when he didn't want to interact with others.
Another possibility is it is fun. I know I used to do it a lot when I was little because it was a game. It wasn't quite peek-a-boo but I enjoyed the bright colours then total dark and seeing what the view was when I could see again. Strange I know but I ws a strange kid at times!!
If it keeps going and is of a real concern, go to your GP and ask for a referral to a paed would be my suggestion.
My DS is much the same age (2 months off 2), and has been doing this a lot lately too. He does it at odd times- sometimes I think its a game and other times a "too much stimulation, need to hide" kind of thing.
