Question Waaaahhhhh! Can't Find Out Baby's Gender :( Anyone Else?

I had the 19/20 week morphology scan the other week and I'm really pleased to say that so far everything is looking fine, but when the sonographer looked to see what sex the baby is, the baby was wriggling around a lot and crossing its legs.

I understand that a lot of people love the surprise of finding out at their delivery, but I am so totally opposite and love to know so I can plan and buy pink or blue

I so thought I would come out of there knowing the sex of my baby like I did the other 2 times.

My Ob, (who charges extra for scans) reckons her machine won't pick up the sex of the baby, so there's no chance I'll be finding out from her.

So now I have to wait until at least 32 weeks for another scan to hopefully find out.

Did this happen to anyone else? Everyone else I know has been able to find out and they have all been correct.

Oh no Mrs Jak - how frustrating!! I opted to find out, I was like you - dying to know. I am not sure where you are located, but here in Qld there are a couple of places in Bris and Gold Coast that do non diagnostic scans - so basically 3D scans and gender determination at the same time. Might be worth looking into if you really can't wait?????

When I was pregnant with DD we didn't find out her sex until I was about 32 weeks pregnant. She just didn't want to give it up. Although due to medical reasons I had quite a few scans.

Hi starangelk, yep we're in Qld too, but unfortunately no one here does the undiagnostic ones

indie24, I really hope the baby will show us its 'bits' at the 32 week scan, like your baby

It's funny, because I always thought that when people said the baby had its legs crossed they just didn't want to tell anyone the sex, but now I know it's a reality!

Oh that sucks! So there's no where that you can go just to get a scan? Even though I know what I'm having, I'm going back at 28 weeks just to get another pic

When I was pregnant with DD she wasnt giving up ANYTHING (not that we were after her sex) everytime I had a scan (and due to medical reasons I had a number of them) she had her little legs crossed. She now sits with them still crossed and when I am feeding her or she is relaxing she crosses them too

Hi Jodi, do you have to get a referal (spell?) to get your 28 week scan? As far as I know, I guess I could go to a GP and request a referal? My Ob seems to be 'anti-scan' unless absolutely necessary.

Colestar, maybe this baby is a girl? It seems girls are very modest and like to keep them crossed

All the sonographer could offer was that she couldn't see any 'obvious' boy bits, but she was having a hard time focusing in on anything in that area. Very active baby by that stage! In my last pg the sonographer looked in that area a couple of times to confirm our boy, but this one only looked right at the very end.

Nope, don't need a referral for a 28 week scan. Whereabouts do you live?

Jody, I'm in Townsville. So you just rang an xray place? Do they charge and do you know how much?

Yep. I'm in Cairns, and my mum is one of the managers at Cairns Diagnostic Imaging, which is part of Qld Xray. In Townsville, they're at the Mater Townsville & Parkhaven. You won't need a referral, just ring them up and let them know you want a 3d scan. You will have to pay, but I'm not sure how much.

We wont get your hopes up but all the ladies I know who have had girls had their little legs crossed during the scan so hopefully you can find out and as Jodi said ask for a 3D scan they will do them for you without referal.

Jody, I might give Qld X-ray a call or I might wait until the 32 week scan??? I'll think about it over the weekend.... I'm so impatient

Colestar, yes, I'm thinking it's looking more and more like it probably is a girl. I can't wait to find out!

We didn't want to find out sex during the pregnancy, but my little one kept her legs closed anyway- and we now have a little girl too.
