ok
so has anyone tried this. i have been reading up on it as i really need to go to the dentist but i am soooooo scared. i feel sick just thinking about it.
im just wondering on the cost involved and what you thought about the whole thing. was it worth it?
I have a huge phobia about the dentist, and hadn't gone for about 10 years - terrible I know Last year I went in and had a wisdom tooth removed, a few fillings fixed up, a few new ones, and a huge clean. The only way I would do it was sleep dentistry - and whilst expensive it was SOOO worth it.
The dental work was approx. $1000, the anaesthetist was about $1000 too, but I was out for around 3 hrs. I claimed a smallish amount back from our health fund. I did not have any pain at all, I vaguely remembered wanting to scratch my nose a few times, which is apparently a common side affect. Each time I lifted my hand to scratch they said they'd scratch it for me to which I would reply 'thanks so much'. They said afterwards I was one of the most polite patients ever. I had to sit in a 'recovery room' for about half hour afterwards before they released me to a friend - I was sleepy on and off for the rest of the evening.
I would totally recommend it if the cost is feasible as it really takes the fear out of it, but realise it's not for everyone. It took some convincing to get DH to agree to the cost, but as I needed so much done it was the best option. Good luck if you decide to go for it!
I'm booked to have a (possibly complicated) extraction next month under sedation.
I have had the same sedation in hospital to do a bone marrow biopsy (lovely procedure involving drilling a piece of bone out of your hip with a large corkscrew-looking instrument) and am happy to report that although I apparently chatted to them (hilariously I expect) throughout the procedure I have absolutely ZERO recollection of any sights sounds sensations. Fantastic stuff! Worth every penny.
My sister who is very dentist-phobic had a huge number of fillings crowns etc done under a sedation and was so impressed she went back to get a whole more heap of work done.
Marydean they warned me that I could chat quite a bit whilst under, and promised they'd tell me anything juicy I said. I was so stressed beforehand because I thought the dentist was an absolute hottie, and that I would go on about it when sedated lol They didn't tell me if I did but I'll go back to him anyday
well i booked into a normal dentist. its for 9:40am tomorrow. im so scared. i wish i could afford sedation but im going to struggle to pay for this lot. oh well maybe next time. i just have to remember that i'm only in there for an hour. then it will be better.
