can I ask why Tony Ferguson is a no-no while breastfeeding?
Hi,
I totally understand that by reducing your kilojoule intake you are risking your milk supply, but my bubba is almost 8 months old now (I can't believe how fast it's gone, she's growing so big :sniff: ), anyway, 8 months, so we've established our breastfeeding, so is there any other reason why I can't do this? Is there something in the shakes that could transfer to Darby through my milk which could harm her or is it still just about milk supply?
I lost 14kg 2 years ago on TF, but after 3 pregnancies (2 ending in miscarriage) it all crept back on and I need to lose at least 20kg to get into a healthy weight range (my BMI is almost off the scale according to my wii fit!)... I found those shakes so convenient in the mornings while running around after 2 boys & trying to keep the house organised, and at the moment I'm not even eating breakfast because I don't have the time to eat in between making lunches, breastfeeding Darby, getting kids dressed & in the car for school by 8:15am.
Any advice on quick "shake" drinks I might be able to use instead so I'm at least having some sort of breakfast... and yes, I know smoothies are good, but I don't even have 5 mins to spend on that!
lee_bee, I am in exactly the same boat so I have no advice sorry but I hope someone else knows.
I lost 10kg on TF & then had to stop when I found out I was PG, DD2 is 8 months now & I'm hanging to get back on it - you're right the shakes are so convenient, with work & kids stuff etc I really struggle with breakfast & lunch, I would be happy to do that bit alone IYKWIM.
Anyway hopefully someone will be able to shed some light
You can still use the shakes, they are a meal replacement. nothing wrong with them.
BUT as you are still breastfeeding, you still need to consume a higher amount of calories/kilojoules. When I was BFing Calorie King told me I needed to consume 800cals extra per day than a normal adult.
If you lower your calorie intake you are not only at risk of losing your supply, but you are still depriving your body - if you are overweight you wont lose weight by not reaching a suitable calorie intake for your body. IYKWIM.
Someone more nutritionally advanced can probably explain this better but it is not a No-no - you just need to supplement the other X amount of cals TF shakes wont give you. And you should check out calorie king to see what your recommended intake is for your weight and for your breastfeeding.
Sorry Lee_Bee you wont be able to use tony ferguson whilst breastfeeding the Program doesn’t provide sufficient energy and nutrients to sustain both mother and baby.
I second what Nai said. Weight Watchers have a breastfeeding program and we currently have 2 BFing mothers in our group that have found it very successful
well i was told its because when you are on the shakes etc your body goes into a state of ketosis (or something like that) which means it produces something that is not good for baby.
having said that, i was also told that i can get a letter from my GP and then they will accept me. (my baby is 12 months though). also i plan on just doing one meal replacement a day not the whole regime that they do.
also, i used to do betty baxter (similar to tony but at a different chemsit) while i was breastfeeding and they had a plan especially for breastfeeders.
