Too late to swap over to MCN's?

My Ds is one years old. After reading an article in the Herald Sun a couple of weeks ago, I have started thinking about swapping over to cloth nappies.
After looking there are so many choices, I really am feeling a little overwhelmed!
What do I need to start with? What Nappy would suit a one year old who is around 10kg? How many would I need? What brand did you find the best?
I really would like to change over, but I am worrying that I have left it too late and that it would just be an expensive exercise now.
    Any thoughts?

    HI
I don't think its too late to change. I started DS in cloth at 13 months. Especially if you'll be having more babies in the future If not, you can re sell them.
I started with terry flats & covers. A pack of flats is only about $20. Then went with pocket nappies & inserts. You can get one size fits all. They'll fit from pretty much nb to toddler years.
There are some sites where you can buy like a start up pack. It'll have all the basics so you can see what you like. There are also some that do I think test nappies, but I don't know much about them.
Most of the mcn's we have were bought either on sale, or second hand.
There are occasionally some of the good brands on ebay & there is a buy & sell your mcn's on face book page.
    Goodluck

are you planning on having more children? if you are, then getting nappies that can be used both by your current DS and any future children can make it very financially viable! there are nappies that will fit a variety of sizes (one size fits most - OSFM) - my little chunky bubba is 10.5 months and weigs similar to your little man. for simplicity, nappies like Bumgenious pocket nappies are not too expensive, have fit my poppet from a very young age, and will do her quite a lot longer (she still has it adjusted to a smaller size so has a lot of room to move).

bumg's are pocket nappies - they wash and dry relatively quickly as it all comes apart into smaller components. being a pocket nappy, they can be boosted with as much absorbant material as you need, depending on how heavy a wetter your little man is. (there are a lot of brands out there - bumg's just come to mind as that's what is on DD"s butt at the moment!).

given his age now, you probably wouldn't need as many nappies as you would for a younger baby as older bubbas don't tend to wet as often. as DD is still not that age, i can't really comment on how many you'd need to have though. i'd say maybe enough nappies to get you through three days (one day being used, one washing/drying, and a day spare in case you can't get them dry in time

good luck with crossing to the fluffy side - it can be very cost effective if you manage to avoid the addiction for pretties that a few of us have! given they can be used for however many kids you have, and can also be sold second hand (places like buy for baby and nappychic) so you can recover some money when you're done, it works out pretty good (you could also check those sites for cheaper second hand options to start you off...

definately not too late! even if your DS toilet trains at two - he will most likely still be in nappies at night for a while longer - so definately worth it.
i swapped DD2 into cloth when she was 9mths old.
I got alot of OSFM to start with. I also had a lovely friend who lent me a few nappies to see what suited us
Hang around the cloth nappy threads - there will be lots of people to help

I would start with just a few, to see how you go. I started with just cloth at home during the day, then cloth while going out - then cloth at night too.

My fav nappies are Pop-ins, Baby beehinds, and fluffy bubs. HTH!
