My DS is turning 3 on Saturday! He seems so much more grown up these days, though I could do with a little less attitude lol.
What is or was your 3 year old's favourite toy? I'd love to get something that will really interest him.
For some reason he can't pedal on a bike, he has a plastic little tike one and he cannot move on it. Does anyone have any idea why? So that is out. He is getting a scooter from my SIL. Someone suggested Duplo? Any good?
I'll think about the pressie suggestions but my DD couldn't pedal either until well after 3. DH bought her a big girls bike - and she was off like a shot.
Hi Jan. We have been really stuck on DD this year too. We ahve decided to get her a bike with a parent handle so we can push her while she learns to pedal. Apart from that does he have a trampoline, cubby, swing set? Duplo is great, DD loves to build towers and DS loves to "help".
Good luck deciding. Let us know what ideas you come up and you eventually get him.
A balance bike They don't have pedals, kids learn to ride without the use of training wheels (which I think are a PITA and I wish I had used a balance bike for the first 3!).
My son was three on Friday, he too will not pedal on his trike that he has, but does love to ride. Just can't do it on his own, he loves it when we push him. So we got him a kids BMX bike with a parent handle that we can use to steer him. We take it for walks in the arvo & he loves it (we gave it to him early a few weeks ago). He's now getting really good with the pedals!
Otherwise, what does he like or what do you like to do with him? My DH is away lots for work so we try to get them to do things together without me, one thing he likes is fishing so we got him his own fishing rod, also books with CD's (he loves me reading to him at night, but not always easy when BF DS2).
Some small things he got at his party that he just loves, a Thomas watch, never thought to get him a watch but he's worn it everyday since his birthday. He also got a torch that you shine on the wall & it has a pic of a space ship onn it & you can change the pictures over....gone to sleep with that every night.
And I second the train set, he spends hours with his trains & mega blocks building bridges & tunnels. HTH.
it's a bike without pedals, so they scoot... When they get really good you will find that they can balance quite well on it and then you just add pedals and they should be confident enough to ride with two wheels bypassing the training wheels altogether.
My DD turned three on Saturday. We got her a big girl bike with a handle. I can push her whne she needs help and she is learning to pedal. Considering it's the first time even she has been on a pedal bike she does really well! Other than that we got her an umbrella, raincoat and gumboots. Fairly cheap and she absolutely adores it all! We also got her some nice pencils, textas and crayons in a nice pencil case and a colouring book and scrapbook. She really loves that too..
We already have duplo and DD is getting really creative with her building and will sit for a fair while and build. She also loves her trainset. She need me to help build the tracks, but will drive the trains around for ages and will also set up the accessories, and her Dora dolls around it all, lol! Another favourite thing is her painting stuff- easel/chalkboard, paint brushes and chalk Keeps her occupied for ages too!
The ideas sound great! Where did you get your bikes from and what brands are they? I get so confused looking at them! I haven't seen the BMX with a parent handle before, that sounds good.
Nice to see you on here Liviam How are your goegeous kidlets going? I can't believe it has been over three years since they came and you have your little man too!
We are getting DD's bike from a bike shop as I've been doing some research and I haven't heard anything good about the bikes from Target & Big W. We have decided to spend a little bit more and get a better quality bike that will be adjusted to DD's measurements and put together properly. We have also decided to go with one with a parent handle (which is removable) so we can help her until she has the hang of pedaling.
Probably a bit late for this suggestion, but every now and then I set aside some time, where I don't have to be anywhere in a hurry, and i follow DS around the toy section of big w or target, and watch what he likes best.
I generally have less trouble finding something and more trouble thinking about what I'm going to do with all the toys he gets from the rest of the family that i don't want in my house.
Hi Rebecca,
Yes I totally agree on the presents from relatives. Hopefully I get a bulk of clothes as that would be alot more useful. A few relo's ask me what he would like and then he gets what he's into which is great. I will try that, I have once before where we discovered he is getting a scooter from my SIL. The run around at BIG W resulted in a HUGE tantrum and we left lol as he wanted the toys NOWWW!!!
I am soooooo excited I bought his presents yesterday. I bought him a 5 in one easel, chalkboard, felt etc. I know he'll love that, it came to me yesterday as I had been thinking so hard what to buy him. I also got a shopping trolley as he loves to put his 'babies' in his car and drives them around. We also got him a crayola digital camera 3+. Was so surprised to see that as usually they are 5+. He will love that! Those presents are from me, MIL and SIL. So all done
