On Thursday last week my ankles, the left one in particular, felt a bit funny. On Thursday night I noticed that both my ankles and the lowers parts of my legs were a bit swollen. It went down over night but the swelling developed again during the course of the day on Friday. It wasn't painful at all, just kind of weird. Also, my left leg was tingling from my ankle to up into my hip bone, again, not painful, just not right. So I decided I needed to see a Dr ASAP.
I saw my GP on Friday afternoon and she did all sorts of bending/stretching/strength tests and said she wanted me to go for a CT scan because she thought that I'd irritated some nerves in my spine.
Anyway, my Uncle is a top back surgeon so I thought, well if it's my back I'm going to go and see him, and my Aunt rang to see how I was so I spoke to him directly. He wasn't at all happy with my Dr's diagnosis (he was a GP for ages before he went into surgery). He said she should have checked my bloody pressure first thing. (I too am surprised she didn't, it was probably because I had both kids with me and DD was screaming). He was much more concerned that it was something to do with my kidneys. He said he would have done a test for protein in my urine and some follow-up blood tests to see if they gave any answers.
Of course the swelling has got worse over the last couple of days, both ankles the same, but there is no tingling anymore. I think my Dr was most concerned about that, hence the CT scan and perhaps the lack of focus on other possible symptoms/clues. The swelling is OK in the morning, then develops during the day and is worst at night. I think I'll go and see DH's Dr as soon as I can on Tuesday.
So, I'm sufficiently worried to be thinking about it a lot, but not so worried that I'd go to an ED right now, a GP on Tuesday will do (I'm not in any pain). It has made me feel a little bit better to write it down at least. And now that it's out there, has anyone experienced this, any ideas? And thanks for listening.
Oh no the dr def should have checked your blood pressure! I get very swollen too it hasn't stopped since I had dd. Like u it gets worse as the day progresses. My BP is borderline but I think I have some vein damage my dr is still checking things out.
I hope they find the cause soon and it's all ok!!!
No real ideas what it could be, but just with the tingling - I think this would be directly related to the swelling, not so much a symptom of nerve irritation? I know when I get fluid retention I sometimes get tingling, I think it's a circulatory thing?
Mine is mostly from not drinking enough water or sitting/ standing too long.
Hope you get some answers soon
i would have said high blood pressure may be the cause, go to a chemist today as most can do blood pressure checks there for you hope its nothing serious
Thanks for all your hugs darlings. Well wadaya know, my ankles are so much better this evening after being quite bad a lunch time? I don't get it? Now I'll turn up at the Drs tomorrow and he won't be able to find a thing wrong with me. I know I shouldn't complain about that but I need answers!!!
My sister has had kidney trouble in the past and her feet swelling was always the first sign. Even if its not too bad I would still go to the dr tomorrow, just in case! Better to be safe I say
Hopefully your dr can't find anything wrong
Well, isn't that always the way...
make sure you get the doctor to check out all possibilities & not just fob you off because it's better. I hope you get some answers
