Where does the wind take us?

    Hi!
DH and I are currently living in Canberra, where my family is, and where i only came back to to finish my study.
But now we are ready to move on.
I am a RN and midwife, with an interest in rural and emerency work. I want to work in a place where i can do everything, where i can work as in antenatal, labour and birth, and postnatal, in hope to give my women some continuinty of care, but i dont want to let go of my nursing either, so along with that throw in a little bit of A&E and general care and i'll be in heaven!!
The smaller the hosptial the better, ideally 35 beds...but i only know of 1 35 bed hosptial with maternity which is in Narrandera - where DH is from and we arent sure we want to move back there.. the next smallest hospital ive been about to find with maternity is 48 beds at Inverell. why did they get rid of all these small maternity departments...
so far i have only limited my search to nsw, just cause i think it would be easier to start...but thats not to say we have ruled out other states.
DH is a jack of all trades, is willing to give everything ago and isnt afraid to try. He does like driving trucks though (although doesnt want to be a truck driver away on the road for days).
basically what i'm asking, is any suggestions?? anyone know of a hosptail that fits my description?? any really nice little towns??
another thing on our list is the local pub has to have a decent counter meal. and calton and pure blonde on tap =P although hopefully the blonde on tap wont be needed if i get UTD
please throw any suggestions our way, before we move there we will obviously suss out the place and spend some time there. but i dont seem to really be getting far with just internet searches.

    THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!

    Hi everyone!
Just bumping this as the universe has decided its time for us to go. DH left his current job and it's time for us to settle somewhere else.

so please people help me narrow down our search!!!

i'm not as fussy now =P simply the smaller the town the better, has to have a pub with a counter meal and a pool table. and a hospital i can work as a midwife in.

    Please help us!!!

Hi Teirae, if you google Rural Maternity Services in Victoria it has a report with a list of all rural hospitals with maternity services. Sorry can't help much with NSW other than Bega or Pambula? Might be too big????

I had my second bub at Mudgee hospital (2hrs west of Sydney) - hospital is probably a bit bigger than you like but I no a lot of the maternity staff who worked on the other wards when births were slow (mainly was geriatrics, kids in the wards and A&E I believe). It was an 11 bed maternity (at capacity) so they got you from hello to good buy although I think the antenatal was done through the local GPs (certainly mine was). On the skirts of the hunter valley area so hubby might be able to pick up a mining style job if he was interested.

    Jamestown South Australia. Too easy!

Only gets 50 odd babies a year though, and most of the hospital work seems to be with oldies.

    Lovely town.

If you want to go somewhere really different, have you looked into Alice Springs or tennant creek in the NT? If DH is interested in getting a passenger endorsement thingy on his licence there is truck driving and bus driving work available generally. Alice also has a midwifery group practice set up as well.

Just some info about hospitals in the territory:

http://nursing.nt.gov.au/-Factsheets-.html all the hospitals have a factsheet
