Darby has gone off breastfeeding today She had a full breastfeed & solids at 7am, her next feed was due at 11am but only took 5mins breast milk then fussed & grumbled and finally had solids (zucchini & potato mash) at 1pm. She's still refusing the breast now, at 5.20pm, and she will actually scream when I try to get her in position to drink. She seems a little "stinky" but doesn't appear to be passing any wind & she did a huge poo last night (which was soft & moist)... no rashes, panadol & bonjella haven't helped... she has accepted a little water... I haven't changed anything in my diet, not sick or pg or menstruating... any ideas for a worried mum?
She might just be having a tired/cranky day? *hugs* to you, I know how horrid breast refusal feels.
FWIW, I would think she will be back to normal soon enough. If you possibly can, try to just stay relaxed. If she wants to drink she knows where to get it from.
Some of the suggestions I've been given in the past are:
- have a bath together
- lie down together with your top off. Just play/talk a bit and casually offer the breast (like you don't care either way, LOL!)
- get her while she's drowsy (wake her if you're comfy. I never was comfortable doing this, so can't say it has worked for me personally.)
Hopefully this has just been an off day for her and you'll be back to normal tomorrow. All the best.
All of my kidlets have done this at some stage or another especially when on solids. I guess if you look at it this way.. Do you sometimes have days where you just aren't hungry or thristy? Maybe she is having a day like that...
I am going to assume she will be back to normal tomorrow. Most likely she will want a breast a lot tonight or tomorrow morning.. If not a trip to the Drs won't hurt.. Better to know she is fine then to worry kwim??
