    Talk to me about cupcakes!

    Hi BB Domestic Goddesses,

I'm thinking about making cupcakes as my birthday cake for my 30th, this Sat. Plan being to make a "30" out of cupcakes, then make a whole lot extra so there's one for each guest (at least). I'm only having about 20 people so that shouldn't be too much hard work.

Problem is I know nothing about cupcakes!

How do I make them - does anyone have a recipe for me? I could google but would much rather a tried-and-true "this one works for me!" type thing!

    What about icing?

Also - where can I find a cake stand? I've got a cake board from DD's 1st bday that I can use for the 30 and was thinking about ways to display the rest of them, a tiered cake stand could work I think.

Finally - how long would they keep for? I don't want to be doing all the baking on Saturday, can I make them Thurs/Fri, ice them Fri/Sat? Or will they go icky??

    Thanks ladies!

I just use a butter cake recipe. Making this many i would probably make them and freeze them and ice them on the Saturday (or day before the party) When you ice them when ther are still cold makes it easier to do. There are places you can hire cupcake stands from too.

Depends on what you like!! Do you want something fairly plain or something different. I made maple cupcakes for DH's birthday on Saturday night, they seriously tasted like pancakes The recipe is in my blog (linked in my sig).

Have a look in the recipe section, we have had whole discertations about cupcakes

I learned from the all mighty Rouge that if you use an ice cream scoop to measure your cupcakes, you can get even sized cakes and they are the perfect size!

I hired a cake stand from Marg and Maree's in Heidelberg if you live in the area. They're on Bell Street and have a big range of cupcake stuff there too. I have a fantastic vanilla cupcake recipe with yummy buttercream frosting by the crabapple cupcake bakery lady. PM me if you're interested. I made 60 cupcakes for my 30th, mud/orange and everyone loved them, and I'm not the most confident baker around!!!!
