The two previous books we read were Love in the time of Cholera and We need to talk about Kevin. Discussion on these books is in our Discussion Thread, for those of you who have already read them.
This thread will be updated with the current book choice every 2 months. The periods will be May-June, July-August and September-October; two months for each book to allow time to find and read it (seeing as we are all busy people...)
If you would like to join us in Bookclub, please pm me your 3 book suggestions, so everyone has input into what we read.............and dont forget to find our current book choice and start reading!
May-June book choice is Expecting Adam by Martha Beck.
Make sure you have a box of tissues at the ready, this one looks to be a tear jerker
Oh thats a good thing to hear Mary! I googled the book after it was drawn and its got rave reviews about how fabulous it is so Im looking forward to reading it.
Hmmm, my library doesn't have a clue about that book. Surprising really, because it is a network of a number of libraries covering a vast area.
I got Kevin taken off me, someone put it on hold while I had it which meant that I couldn't renew it. So I had two weeks to finish it, and that ain't happening around here! I can't win!
Gosh this book is hard to find, Ive been to 4 seperate bookshops in two different area's and all of them had sold out of copies and the suppliers will take about a month to order one in!
For those who are having trouble finding the book to buy its because its out of print. A&R said they could order it in but it would take 4-6wks because it has to come from the US. I found a copy on Ebay but if you google the title and author a few AU sites come up where you can buy it from
For those of you who are having trouble getting copies, ask your library to do an interlibrary loan. If it's from within your state it might be free but it only costs $13.70 (when I last did the job LOL) to source a copy from any library in Australia!! I've checked the national catalogue and dozens of libraries have it so shouldn't be too hard to get a copy that way.
Thanks Marydean, I noticed our library does inter-library loans but doesn't explain how, and then of course I wondered how you know if another library has the book for loan. There is another book I am trying to source too. So what is the national catalogue and how do you check it?
The national catalogue is called Trove Australia. When you search on the site, it will spit out a few hits, click the title you want and then there's a box that says "available from" and shows the different libraries where it is. Usually though you shouldn't need to do it, your library's website should have a request a book option somewhere or if not you should be able to email your request through.
