    Work from Home & ABN?

I'm going to be doing admin based work from home but need to register for an ABN and not really sure what i need to do?. i had a look at the vic gov website and it just confused me even more! - I haven't commenced the work yet but the online agency im working through requires all employees to have an ABN prior to work being offered to us.

Can anyone help please? do i need to apply for the gst, tax credits etc?

    TIA

You apply through the ATO. Or your accountant can do it for you
gst will depend on the type of work and total income. I think generally you only have to register for gst if you earn more than 75k/year, for eg.

    Thanks Marcellus

As it will only be adhoc work, not ongoing, i highly doubt ill be earning 75k! (i wish!)

So you can't apply online for it? if not, will contact my accountant tomorrow to get the ball rolling.

I did my abn online on the Vic ATO website, technically you don't have to have on unless earning over 75k but if they require you to then I guess that's different, I don't earn that much but got an abn when I found out people only have to pay you 48% of what you charge if you don't have one and wothold the other 52% for tax

The website is ABR - Home Page to apply for an ABN online.......you should get it automatically if you answer all the questions right

How did you get involved in doing admin work from home? I really want to do something like that but can't find any contacts to get the ball rolling!

Does anyone know if the ABN requirements vary from state to state? We are thinking about setting up a home business too and have no idea how these things work, so I am subscribing to this thread hoping to learn some things.

    Good Luck Negrita.

Good Luck to you too Brunette.

I'm not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but I am signed up to a Career Mums newsletter that has all kinds of info about setting up home businesses, getting flexible jobs, etc. If anyone is interested, please PM me and I will give you the details.
