DD drinking and eating very strange things

Im a tiny bit worried about DD...

She seems to enjoy eating and drinking the worst things.. like shampoo, moisturiser, soap etc....
She doesnt spit it out, she would quite happily sit there and keep doing it if i let her!
I've had to call poisons hotline many times and im really getting quite sick of it!
What do i do? apart from the obvious - remove everything from her reach.. She still manages to find things.
Earlier i was rubbing some body butter on my arms and she stuck her hand in and put it straight in her mouth!!! gross.

Any ideas?

My DD is a champion eater of things that should not be eaten!

Sorry I have no ideas, just sympathy, short of locking my DD up (which is kinda not my parenting style) I'm just hoping it's a phase she'll get over (soon please).

You might try googling a condition called PICA and see if she fits any of the symptoms... If so maybe talk to your GP.

My kids all liked to taste weird stuff like that. DS loved to suck on a bar of soap while he was in the bath lol. They grew out of it.

When i was at uni I watched a mini doco on kids and how they don't have an 'ick factor' (for want of a better term, it's way too early for me to remember the proper teminology). They got young kids, older kids and adults to eat off a plate which had what looked like poo on it. The kids ate what was on the plate without question, both before and after they were told it was poo whereas the older kids and adults questioned what the poo looking thing on the plate was and wouldn't eat knowing there was poo on the plate. They concluded that kids under a certain age don't understand that some things are not for eating and will only stop eating them once they are in their mouth and don't like the taste.

So in your case, your DD doesn't understand that shampoo, creams and things like that are full of chemicals and not for eating yet she continues to eat them becuase she likes the taste. You, as an adult woudln't even consider eating them (no matter how delicious they might taste lol) because they are not intended for eating.

oh my goodness i cannot believe it,im sorry but i thought i had the only abnormal child and thought i could win some record,well she could!!She will eat shampoo,hair gel,hair wax actually any hair products,her eczema cream(especially the honey one bordering on obsessed with it) everything oh and jiff haha i was really worried and still a bit am until i read your post,i have no clue why she does it and yes i know keep them locked up and i try but she loves them and if you take them off her whow!!!
