    Solids poo (TMI)

My DD is 7.5 months old. We've been doing BLS with her so her intake of solids has increased really slowly. First we just saw pieces of whatever she'd eaten come back out along with the normal bm poo. In the last three days her body seems to have started processing the food more and her poos have got much more solid (still soft, but thicker iykwim?). She's really straining and struggling the whole time, she's done 15 poos in the last 48 hours, but they've all been tiny. She has a lot of wind too.

I mixed a bit of prune juice in with her water but she wasn't impressed by it so in the end I tipped it away and gave her water again so she would continue to drink. I've also rubbed her tummy, bicycled her legs sat her in a warm bath and encouraged her to move around lots, but nothing seems to have helped. She seems to be so uncomfortable, I've lost could of how many times I've got up with her tonight and she writhes around and cries every time.

Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do to help her? We're both exhausted now and need a rest!

ETA: should I stop giving her solids and just give her bm until she poos properly?

If the poo isn't firm, like little pellets or nuggets, then I would think it's unlikely she's constipated.
It may be that she is getting used to the sensation of doing thicker poos and is finding that a bit uncomfy. Sometimes Phoebe still is a bit irritable until she does a poo and then she's back to her normal self again.
Or, I wonder if they smell 'normal' to you or if they REALLY STINK? I know stacks of kids who've had tummy bugs lately (in fact, most of the kids I know! Including mine of course) all with varying symptoms. The one that seems fairly consistent though is painful cramping in the tummy.
You could try laying off the solids for 24-48 hours and see if that helps out. But it could just be that she's getting used to it all. In which case you'd need to give her fibrous stuff and lay off the starch and banana. GL! It is such a guessing game and really quite distressing when they are so unsettled.

    Der balmaingal,

That is great news that her poos are becoming more solid. I have been reading some of your journey on the BLW thread.

Sorry to hear about the little one been so unsettled though.

My DD is also BLW and has just started to show signs she is digesting food. She is also unsettled. Last night she woke every 2 hours and has been unsettled compared to normal. She is also passing wind a lot more than she used to. We have the opposite problem where she has not pooed for 3 days and she was a 3-4 times a day gal.

It may be just the digestive system kicking in and your little one getting used to it in her own way. I am going to hit the prune juice this afternoon if no movement though.

Good luck and i hope she settles down. Sorry i was not much help.

Thanks Snacks - I reckon it is just her body getting used to the new sensation, she is suddenly eating an awful lot more. They do seem really smelly, but I reckon that's just compared to breast milk poos!

Shazzi - thanks Hun, it is a huge relief that her intake's increasing, both milk and solids-wise. She'll be a little budda before we know it Sorry to hear that your little one is going through the same poo issues at the moment... Hopefully they'll both adjust to it soon and we can both get a better nights sleep!

I think the poo explosion this afternoon might have solved the problem!
