    Fused labia

    Hi there
I just got back from DD2's 6 month development check and it all seemed to go well apart from this issue...when the nurse checked DD out she noticed that her labia were fusing to the outer lips of her vagina. She said it might be because I haven't been wiping firmly enough when I change her nappies. I'm always so careful when I wipe her, but I guess I haven't been doing it right
She told me to get some hormone cream from the dr and it should fix it up.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is this how you treated it?
    Thanks

DD#1 had this - it was also picked up at her 6mth checkup. The health nurse said it was nothing to do with how I had cared for her, and that it was nothing to worry about. She said I could see the GP and get some hormone cream for it, or that I could wait to see if it had corrected itself by her 12mth checkup.
I chose not to do anything, and it fixed itself - and she hasn't had any problems since
The nurse also said that sometimes the hormone cream will fix it - but then it can happen again anyway, so sometimes its better to just let it be.

DD had the same thing around 6months we were told she had a fused labia. The health nurse just said to made sure you wipe there and try and do it firmly without hurting to make sure it gets clean properly. She also said not to worry about it and most girls have it when there babies and that when she starts walking it will sort itself out.

By the time she was 15months old it had disapeared so i wouldnt worry to much about it just make sure you clean inside the bit thats fused.

My CHN noticed this on my DD's 3 month check. She said it is fairly common and is hormonal. She said it can occur right up until puberty. She told me to mention it to my GP at DD's 4 month needles, which I did on Monday. GP checked it out and said it was all ok and reiterated what the nurse said. They both also said in some cases, a hormone cream is used to resolve it.

a girlfriend's DD had this at 4 months - the MCHN told her it was due to her disposable nappies keeping her too dry? With some hormone cream and a gentle massage in the bath all was fine within 2 weeks.
