DD loves the Wiggles "Rock a Bye Your Bear" song. It used to be the only thing that would stop her crying when she was on the change table, now it can be any song though!

    Why do they like it?

I think it's just part of the bonding process rocking and singing is a natural instinct so it makes them calm down and then later smile and babble back.

I think any repetitive sound is soothing to a baby... especially music. They are in such a strange world in which anticipating things is so very hard... just to be able to predict what note or word is coming next is comforting. We take so much for granted as adults.

I also read that singing changes the voice somewhat so it sounds more like what they heard in the womb ...

aww Isn't it lovely?! I have a terrible singing voice but DS still loves it when I sing to him. I don't understand how he can like it or go to sleep for that matter.

It's such a special thing to have and bond with baby with singing. I love it and so does DD (no-one else in my house likes my singing ).
I do round and round the garden and this little piggy and she just loves it!!
It's just pure joy don't you think?
I think they love the expressions on our faces when we sing to them..as it's just for them and I really think they feel and love it.
Oh Wow..I feel really warm and fuzzy talking about this..just beautiful.

I do a version of a song I vaguely remembered from a movie years back, filled in what I couldn't remember with gibberish LOL
Squidgery didgery didgy didge, squidgery didgery doo...
    I love you...
I love you in the morning, and in the afternoon,
I love you in the evening, and underneath the moon (WOOOO)
Squidgery didgery didgy didge, squidgery didgery doo...
    I love you.

    DS loves it

ETA: turns out it's an actual song and it's just the nonsense syllables that I changed LOL - but I call him my Squidgy anyway so it works for us

It's so nice isn't it?! DD1 is at the age now, when I put her to bed and sing her songs, she sings along with me too. It's just adorable. This parenting thing is full of specialness isn't it!!

I know what song you mean Shades! Skidermerinky dinky dink! I prefer your nonsense words though! LOL
