    Take away food?

OK so last night i ate thai and got fried rice with chicken only
(i dont eat pork or shell fish)

Now i am stressing, what is the possibility of contracting a listeria infection?

It wasnt that hot by the time we picked it up, got home and ate it.

    Re: Take away food?

I had Thai last night too, pad mamuang chicken and veg but cooked my own rice.
If it's a reputable place that you usually go to and you know the food is safe surely it's ok.
I know rice can be an issue if it's not cooked fresh.
If it was steaming hot when you bought it and you ate it before the danger period which is 2 hrs then I'm sure you're fine.
I guess it's a risk but if you're sensible bout it then I'm sure takeaways are fine.
Maybe if you're concerned about how hot it was next time you could zap it in the microwave.
They usually cook to order at takeaway places so I'm sure you're fine

I'd say it would be AOK. we have takeaway here (to feed my indian cravings lol!) at least once a week atm. if you have been there before without incident (ie no food poisoning) and especially if it is frequented alot by people, then the chances are really unlikely.

    Re: Take away food?

I think you'd be feeling it by now if you'd got something, food poisoning usually hits quickly.
    You're fine I'm sure.
Maybe zap next time if you have doubts but I'd say they cooked it when you ordered it

Thanks babyluv but the symptoms from listeria are nothing like food poisoning.

They are more flu like and can occure up to 70 days after eating the food!

Try not to worry yourself Loula, the chances of getting Listeria are very, very low. Like the others have said if it is from a reputable place who cooks to order then you should be fine. I ate heaps of take away when I was preg, and yes I do have to admit there were times when I worried myself (especially the time when I ate some aioli mayo and then thought to ask if it was made fresh using raw egg and was told I shouldn't eat it) but everything was fine in the end. Yes you do need to be careful, but overall the chances of getting it are very slim so don't stress too much.

I'm a bit concerned now after reading about listeria, it's hard to diagnose.
I guess If in doubt don't eat it hey?
